Tobias Menzies is a British film and TV actor best known for his recurring roles on "Game of Thrones" (HBO 2011- ) and "Rome" (HBO 2005-07). Born and raised in London, England, Menzies' early fascination with performing led him to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. While attending the school, Menzies learned how to sing and play an instrument, in addition to his acting training. Menzies graduated in 1998, and soon began landing recurring roles on such popular British TV shows as "Casualty" (BBC, 1986- ) and "Ultimate Force" (ITV, 2002-08). His first big break came in 2005 when he nabbed the part of Brutus on the historical series "Rome." The show became an international hit, and was responsible for making Menzies a recognizable face both in the U.S., and abroad.

After "Rome" ended in 2007, Menzies continued landing parts on TV shows, as well as movies. He was featured in the James Bond reboot "Casino Royale" (2007) and also appeared in Joe Wright's period drama "Atonement" (2007). In 2013 Menzies was cast as Edmure Tully on HBO's hugely popular fantasy series, "Game of Thrones," thus increasing his profile even more in America. His role on "Game of Thrones" may have put Menzies' face in front of millions each week, but it wasn't until he nabbed a co-starring role in the 2014 fantasy series "Outlander" (Starz, 2014- ), that his star truly began to rise. The show debuted on the Starz network in August of 2014 and was such an immediate hit that the series was immediately renewed for a second season.

Between seasons of "Outlander" (which he left following the third season), Menzies appeared in a recurring role on comedy "Catastrophe" (Channel 4 2015- ) and co-starred in the serials "The Night manager" (BBC 2016) and "The Terror" (AMC 2018) and a TV adaptation of "King Lear" (BBC 2018). During this period, he also co-starred in action film "Underworld: Blood Wars" (2016) and British drama "Carmilla" (2018). In 2018, it was announced that Menzies would take over the role of Prince Philip from Matt Smith in Peter Morgan's "The Crown" (Netflix 2016- ) opposite Olivia Colman as the new Queen Elizabeth II.
