‘The Crown’: 10 Essential Prince Philip Episodes to Stream on Netflix
The Crown may be driven by Queen Elizabeth II, but it has also highlighted plenty of the other royal family members including the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip.
Portrayed by Matt Smith (Doctor Who) and Tobias Menzies (Outlander), in Seasons 1 through 4, the Duke’s personality, history, and more have been dramatized for the Netflixseriesa. And while there are plenty of great episodes throughout the show’s run so far, there are definitely a select few that truly encompass Prince Philip.

When Philip is put in charge of coronation planning, his less traditional ideas clash with the rest of the committee planning the event. Among some of his ideas are forgoing kneeling for the Queen and televising the event.
"Pride & Joy" (Season 1, Episode 8)
Tensions between the Queen and Philip flare on a tour as he begins to feel used by his wife. Things come to a concerning boil when their feud is caught on camera abroad. Yikes!
"A Company of Men" (Season 2, Episode 2)
After the pair decide it’s best to spend some time apart, Philip heads out on a solo tour without Elizabeth and in doing so, their hearts grow fonder with distance. Their public addresses delivered in the episode serve as baby steps towards repairing their frayed marriage.
"Lisbon" (Season 2, Episode 3)
Philip becomes more than just the Queen’s husband in this installment as his upset over his son Charles outranking him within the royal lineup comes to a head. In response to his feelings, the Queen helps make Philip a prince by declaring him Duke of Edinburgh.

This installment digs into Philip’s childhood, unveiling his older sister’s tragic death, her ties to the Nazis, and much more. If you’re looking for the Prince Philip episode, it’s this one.

Prince Philip finds himself embroiled in controversy when a scandal involving high-ranking government figures hits a little too close to home. It’s the kind of drama any fan of The Crown lives for.

After tragedy strikes in the Welsh town of Aberfan, Prince Philip is one of the first royal family members to show up. He pushes for Elizabeth to get involved, horrified by the devastation, and eventually she does. But this episode gives a relatability to the Prince who is willing to respond during a crisis.

This episode reveals more about Philip’s mother, Princess Alice, when she comes to live with the family at Buckingham Palace. After years of existing in and out of mental institutions, Philip has to grapple with the pain of his past in this key episode.
