American journalist John Dickerson was born July 6, 1968, in Washington D.C. After graduating with distinction from the University of Virginia with a degree in English, Dickerson embarked on his career. He was a political reporter at "Time" magazine for 12 years, and for the last four of those years he was the magazine's official White House correspondent. After this, he served as chief political correspondent for the website Slate. In 2009, he hosted "Face the Nation" (CBS, 1954- ) several times, and in November 2011 he was named Political Director of CBS News. He took over as permanent host for "Face the Nation" on June 7, 2015, replacing previous long-time host Bob Schieffer. He is also the author of the books "On Her Trail" (2006), a memoir about his mother, Nancy Dickerson Whitehead, a prominent journalist and the first female correspondent ever hired by CBS; and "Whistlestop: My Favorite Stories from Presidential Campaign History" (2016). In January 2018, Dickerson stepped down from his "Face the Nation" position to take on a new role as the third co-host of "CBS This Morning" alongside Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell, replacing Charlie Rose.
