‘Ted’ Trailer: Seth MacFarlane’s Teddy Bear Joins John at School (VIDEO)

Ted, the iconic teddy bear from the films voiced by Seth MacFarlane, returns in a Peacock series, and as the trailer shows, he’s going to make high school even more embarrassing for John (Max Burkholder).

In the prequel series Ted, premiering on January 11 2024, we go back to 1993 and Ted’s moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend, the 16-year-old John Bennett, along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach) and cousin Blaire (Giorgia Whigham). Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he’s a loyal pal who’s always willing to go out on a limb for friendship.

The trailer offers a look at those early days for Ted and John, and the family wants the bear to go to school with the teen every day. “I would not have fun. I guard the house when you guys are out,” Ted argues. But how he does that leads Matty to insist, “you’re going to school, and you’re going to grow a f**king brain.” And that means Ted is by John’s side during sex ed class to embarrass him.

MacFarlane, in addition to voicing Ted, serves as executive producer, writer, director, and co-showrunner. Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh are also executive producers, writers, and co-showrunners.

“Our series is a prequel to the Ted movies. It takes place in the nineties but is based on the timeless truth that being sixteen sucks. The only thing that makes it tolerable is going through it with a friend, even if that friend is a has-been magical teddy bear with a foul mouth and a proclivity for drug use,” the three said in a previously released statement. “The three of us were teenagers in the nineties and grew up in and around Boston, where the show takes place, so many of these stories are personal for us. We were able to put the characters through some of the same indignities and milestones we experienced back then. Also, we made stuff up (it’s a lot of pages to fill and real life is mostly boring).”

Ted is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, Fuzzy Door and MRC. Erica Huggins, Alana Kleiman, Jason Clark, and Aimee Carlson (Fuzzy Door Productions) are also executive producers.
