Critics Choice Awards 2020: ‘When They See Us,’ ‘Schitt’s Creek’ & More Among the TV Nominations

The nominations for the 25th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards were revealed Sunday ahead of the ceremony which will take place January 12 on The CW.

Broadcast live over the network beginning at 7/6c that day, the Critic’s Choice Awards will once again be hosted by All American‘s Taye Diggs. Among the list of nominations, which includes honors for film and television, were plenty of nods for fan favorites like Schitt’s Creek, This Is Us and HBO’s Watchmen.

Netflix’s When They See Us earned the most nominations for a television title with a total of six, Schitt’s Creek and This Is Us follow close behind with five a piece. Other shows that earned multiple nominations include Barry, Chernobyl, Fleabag, Fosse/Verdon, Game of Thrones, The Crown, The Good Fight, Unbelievable and Watchmen. And some stars even earned double nods including newcomer Asante Blackk who is being recognized for his roles in When They See Us and This Is Us.

Between their films and series, Netflix pulled in the most nominations with 61, while HBO received 31, Amazon earned 14 and NBC garnered 12. “This has been a truly great year for television and movies,” said CCA CEO Joey Berlin. “In every genre, from every viewpoint and distribution platform, brilliant storytellers are challenging and delighting us. We are so excited to have the opportunity to celebrate them, and their work, on January 12 on The CW!”
