Darkness Comes to ‘Supernatural’ and Surrounds the Winchester Brothers
In the final moments of last season’s Supernatural finale, just as Death himself had warned, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) were overrun by the Darkness. The primordial force was released from its eternal prison when Dean was freed from the cursed Mark of Cain but without passing it along to another host.

Only God knows what this enemy wants. Before the dawn of humanity, the Almighty and his archangels won a great victory over the Darkness and locked it away using the Mark as the seal. Now there’s only the Winchester brothers, who survived their encounter for unknown reasons, and their angel ally Castiel (Misha Collins) taking up the fight. But that could change into a very odd Kumbaya moment. “There are tremors through the human and supernatural worlds,” executive producer Jeremy Carver says. “That makes a lot of unlikely bedfellows in Heaven and Hell.” One of whom is a mysterious stranger named Amara, played by Emily Swallow. Another could be the treacherous Metatron (Curtis Armstrong), God’s former scribe.

Whether or not God finally shows up to save the day, Carver promises the siblings will be truly united this season. “They have a come-to-Jesus moment about who they are and what they stand for moving forward,” he says.” Amen to that.
