Will Tom Selleck Appear in ‘Boston Blue’ Season 2? Sonequa Martin-Green Weighs In
What To Know
- Sonequa Martin-Green shares her hopes for Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck to appear on Boston Blue.
- Several Blue Bloods cast members have already appeared on Boston Blue, and the spinoff’s creators maintain an open invitation for more original stars to join future episodes.
- Tom Selleck has expressed uncertainty about reprising his role as Frank Reagan.
Sonequa Martin-Green says Boston Blue has asked Tom Selleck to appear on the spinoff, and she’s hoping that one day the Blue Bloods star will say yes. Could it happen in Boston Blue Season 2?
Boston Blue Season 1 featured four Blue Bloods stars: Bridget Moynahan (Erin Reagan), Detective Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez), Len Cariou (Henry Reagan), and Will Hochman (Joe Hill). Hochman appeared in the Boston Blue Season 1 finale on May 22 to help Martin-Green’s Lena, who was grappling with meeting new family members she never knew existed until adulthood, just like Joe in Blue Bloods. Jamie (Will Estes) and Eddie’s (Vanessa Ray) baby was revealed earlier in Season 1 as well.
Ramirez will be back as Baez in Boston Blue Season 2, premiering this fall on CBS, and the creators of the series have previously said that the stars of Blue Bloods have an open invitation to appear on the Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) spinoff. After the finale, Martin-Green said that Selleck is on everyone’s minds for a cameo. She revealed that he’s “always getting asked.”
“We’ve been talking about Mr. Selleck for a long time,” Martin-Green told Woman’s World. “He is always getting asked, and as Donnie always says, the door’s open. We would love to have him and we will make sure the story is just right because Tom is so adamant about the story, as he should be and as we all should be. I think it would be great if we can have him, and I’m excited for whatever story it ends up being if he does come.”
“I want everybody from Blue Bloods on this show, but it’d be nice to see Tom [Selleck],” she added.
Martin-Green told TV Insider that the Boston Blue team is happy to welcome Blue Bloods stars because their series is “standing on [their] shoulders.”
“I feel like I could speak for everybody when I say this, but I want as many [Blue Bloods] people as we can get,” she told us. “Let’s continue building this world. Let’s keep this world, this world that Blue Bloods established. Let’s just keep building it. Let’s keep enriching it. Let’s have people from our predecessor come. We’re standing on the shoulders of Blue Bloods. And so every single time that somebody from our predecessor, every single time they can come, it adds to us. It adds a richness. It adds a legitimacy to us. That’s what I think. And so I want everybody to come. But yeah, we were super excited to have [Will Hochman], and he fit right in. Everybody just fits right in. It was such a joy.”
Boston Blue mentioned Frank throughout the first season. Selleck has said in the past that he’s not sure he wants to play Frank Reagan again. He was also vocal about his disappointment that Blue Bloods ended.
“I don’t know if I would do Boston Blue — that’s another show,” Selleck told Hour Detroit in November 2025. “I think it’s partly my lot in life to make sure Blue Bloods has its place in television history, but I don’t think it’s my lot in life to keep playing Frank Reagan.”
Blue Bloods ran for 14 successful seasons on CBS. Selleck said its cancellation “was a huge disappointment,” adding, “I still don’t know why CBS did it. If you get rid of the football, we were the sixth most popular series in all of television.”

CBS is supposly having issues with money so they cut shows that cost a lot of money and making actors on fbi tbe in less eps

Because they were too republican is why in the last season . CBS went woke so if the programs didn't align no matter how popular to their woke agenda they were shut down blue bloods wasn't they only one

I see where he is coming from....But I would love to see him come on Boston Blue... That's why I watch the show, I'm hoping to see everyone from Blue Bloods come on this show...I think a lot of people are hoping that as well, we miss the show, characters & actors...And as Tom Selleck said he doesn't know why it was cancelled, just like all of us fans of the show.. Didn't make sense at all...

As much as I'd love to see him, he IS Blue Bloods & is right to feel that's where his localities lie. Boston Blue just isn't as good, the scripts seem forced & it's trying way too hard to make parallels to Blue Bloods. Blue Bloods should've stayed & they should've added Boston Blue to create a Universe like One Chicago.

Excellent suggestion on the “Universe” approach they should have taken instead!

i miss Blue Blood the cast and story line were great. why they cancelled the show is beyond me. they are trying hard to capture the fans and hearts of the viewers ............they reprise the Blue Blood series. right now the story line on Boston Blue is too complicated...........the family dinner is a laugh. atetnd as for the actual police story line it is basically non existence it is nice to see the characters from blue blood which goes to show you how much us fans miss the original show. one more thing...tell Danny to go back to his other haircut.

They should have kept Blue Bloods going. This is just a remake of that show but woke with the interracial family and not near as good. The traditional family especially being religious and saying prayer at dinner is why I think they canceled it. I really was upset when I saw Donny where he said he had been asking about a spin off for years but didn't think they would do it, but he fought hard to keep blue bloods too? To me, it seems like he stabbed Tom Selleck and all the cast of blue bloods in the back to get his own show. I don't blame Tom for not wanting to do the new show.

The best thing to do is bring back/reprise the original Blue Bloods to be filmed in NYC, do away with the poor imitation too complicated imitation from Canada.

I think it’s insulting to even think about asking him. Blue Bloods should never have been cancelled, Boston Blue is a poor imitation filmed in Canada

Blue bloods should have never been cancelledm we still watch the reruns. And actually blue bloods could have gone for at least 5 more years. I will never watch Boston blue. Trying to set up the same method of a family dinner under this disguise of a blue bloods family time is really stretching it. Doesn't come off the same. Only saw one scene and turn ed it off.

Tom Selleck was the heart and soul of Blue Bloods, and I understand his hesitancy. I would LOVE to see him on the show. I am a born-and-raised resident of Massachusetts and happy to see Donnie Wahlberg back home. The only thing that drives me insane about the Boston Blue series is that the actors do not use a Boston accent. This series is supposed to be set in the City of Boston, and not ONE of the police officers on the show has a Boston accent. C'mon people, you've gotta represent!! Make Boston proud. This is just my opinion.

It's a weak boring show. The only time it's exciting is when someone from Blue Bloods is there. The Silvers are boring. Get rid of them and bring the whole Blue Bloods cast back. Only then will it be a great show and could run for years.
