9 Burning Questions for ‘Lucifer’s Sixth and Final Season

Lucifer Season 5 Episode 14 Tom Ellis
John P. Fleenor/Netflix

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for all of Season 5 of Lucifer.]

If you’ve binged the second half of Lucifer‘s fifth season, chances are you have so many questions after that wild cliffhanger, as well as the moments leading up to it.

Over the eight episodes of Season 5B, God (Dennis Haysbert) retired (to his wife’s dimension), and Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and his twin Michael battled it out to take over as God. Lucifer won — after seemingly burning from within during a trip to heaven to bring back Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) after his brother killed her. And speaking of Chloe, she decided she’d quit the LAPD to become Lucifer’s consultant in his new gig (before he got it).

Fans also said goodbye to Detective Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro), who died during Lucifer and Michael’s conflict, and watched as the demon Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt), who wanted God to give her a soul only for him to essentially tell her she can grow one, reunited with Eve (Inbar Lavi) after accepting she’d have to lose her mortal love one day.

Fortunately, there’s one more season to go. (The Netflix drama was supposed to end with its fifth but was ultimately renewed for a sixth season.) Scroll down for the burning questions we can’t wait to see answered when Lucifer returns.

What kind of God is Lucifer going to be?

After deciding he’d take over for his retiring father, Lucifer did quip here and there about a few changes he’d make (sharks are so misunderstood), but what is he going to do in his new role as God? So far, all we’ve seen is him giving his brother a second chance and cutting off Michael’s wings instead of taking his life. “No more killing,” Lucifer declared.

Will Lucifer be able to get Dan out of Hell?

Though Lucifer originally wanted to be God to try to be worthy of Chloe, following Dan’s death — and learning he’s in Hell — the devil decided he had to become God. But can he rescue Dan from his Hell loop? The finale may have been foreshadowing Dan eventually making it to Heaven. Lucifer saw a man he encountered when he reclaimed the throne of Hell at the beginning of Season 5 in Heaven when he flew up to Chloe.

What does Lucifer being God mean for his and Chloe's relationship?

Though Lucifer claimed that it wouldn’t change a thing for them, Chloe did hear first-hand how being God affected his dad’s relationship. Something tells us there are going to be more than a few bumps in the road when it comes to Lucifer’s new job and his relationship. (Just look at their romance so far!)

Lucifer Season 5 Finale Chloe Heaven

Will there be any ramifications for Chloe coming back from the dead?

Chloe was technically dead in the finale and with her father in Heaven until Lucifer went up there to bring her back. But it can’t be as simple as that, even with Lucifer now God, can it?

Aimee Garcia Lucifer Season 5 Episode 9 Ella

When will Ella find out the truth?

As entertaining as it was to watch forensic scientist Ella Lopez (Aimee Garcia) continue to be in the dark, especially around God himself, it’s about time she learns the truth. And it seems like someone’s going to have to tell her, considering when presented with a feather from an angel’s wing, she assumed Lucifer hit an emu. The series can’t end with her not knowing everything.

Is Chloe really done with the LAPD?

After learning that her parents planned to swap working to advance their careers to support one another (before her father died), Chloe makes the decision to retire from work and serve as Lucifer’s consultant. But that was before Lucifer actually had the job as God (and when the series was ending with five seasons). Who knows what might change now?

Will Maze and Eve be able to make it work?

Maze and Eve’s reunion may have taken a while, but in the finale, the two were (finally) together. Maze had even accepted that Eve didn’t want to be immortal, and she would therefore lose her. But that may be easier said than done.

How much dissension will there be about Lucifer as God?

To say Lucifer didn’t have much support for his bid to be God would be an understatement. He had Chloe, the angels Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) and Zadkiel (Joel Rush), Maze, and Eve on his side, and that was it. Though everyone (including Michael) kneeled before him at the end, that doesn’t mean that it’s going to be quite that easy in Season 6. Does anyone really think Michael won’t still be a (major) problem?

Will Amenadiel join the LAPD?

Amenadiel revealed to Dan his plans to join the LAPD just before the detective’s death. And then at Dan’s funeral, Ella revealed the man turned in the angel’s application for him. How much will that be part of Amenadiel’s story in Season 6?
