High Potential‘s Season 3 premiere date may not be announced yet, but the promise of ABC‘s hit series return leaves us wondering if Roman will finally make a sizeable appearance in the show. The absence of Morgan Gillory’s (Kaitlin Olson) missing ex has been a lingering plotline since Season 1, when she took a job with the LAPD in exchange for their help in finding the father of her eldest child, daughter Ava (Amirah J).

But who could possibly play Roman if the show decides to bring him on as a character? Season 2’s finale hinted at his potential arrival with a shadowy figure looming in the background of Ava’s art show. But could he have something to do with the stabbing of Morgan’s new beau, Captain Nick Wagner (Steve Howey)? That question could easily be answered if the series finally unveils the mysterious figure, who some fans predicted was played by Mekhi Phifer before Season 2 revealed his identity as Arthur, a friend of Roman’s.

Below, we’re breaking down a few dreamcast picks for who we think could be good fits to play Roman. Scroll down for our picks and let us know who you’d like to see in the role in the comments section. Keep an eye out for any potential casting announcements.

Michael Ealy

No stranger to network fare, Ealy‘s past work on shows like ABC’s former series Stumptown and The Good Wife, among many others, makes him a perfect fit for High Potential. His striking blue eyes are also mirrored in Amirah J, who would play his onscreen daughter.

Jesse Williams

An ABC vet following his run as Dr. Jackson on Grey’s Anatomy, Williams could easily make the shift from onscreen doc to undercover fugitive. Plus, Roman’s affinity for art wouldn’t be too far from Williams’ capabilities as he memorably played artist Leo in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.

Omari Hardwick

Power alum Hardwick is no stranger to the world of onscreen crime, and his lack of TV presence recently makes him a prime candidate for a Season 3 role as Roman. We’d be lying if we said we didn’t want more of Hardwick on our TV screens.

Laz Alonso

The Boys actor is bidding adieu to the series with its fifth and final season at Prime Video, clearing the path for a new TV role in Alonso‘s life. His performance as Marvin in the superhero hit has proven he has what it takes to play a protective father, meaning he’s definitely Roman material.

Isaiah Mustafa

The Shadowhunters vet and Cross actor would be a more than welcome addition to the ABC procedural. Offering a blend of endearing kindness and tough guy energy, Mustafa feels like a worthy candidate for the potential role.

Larenz Tate

Fresh off of Michael, could Tate find a home at High Potential next? After a run on Power and Power Book II: Ghost, he’s had plenty of experience with playing the criminal pursuits that Roman could face on the ABC series. Plus, it could be a Rescue Me reunion for Tate and Daniel Sunjata, who plays Morgan’s partner, Karadec, as the actors previously appeared together in the former FX title.

Edwin Hodge

Following his recent role on Matlock, Hodge‘s network proximity is notable, and considering FBI: Most Wanted, in which he appeared for three seasons, is no longer running, he could have some extra free time to step into the world of High Potential. Used to the procedural format, Hodge’s incorporation would be rather seamless.

Romany Malco

The actor hasn’t done anything onscreen since A Million Little Things ended in 2023, making now a perfect time for a TV return. Plus, Malco has an approachable kindness about him that would sell us on the idea of Roman being potentially innocent when it comes to some of the crimes he’s being accused of, like killing an undercover agent.
