‘The Forsytes’ Season 2: New Sneak Peek of What’s To Come

The first season of Masterpiece: The Forsytes has come to a close, and with it, a great family stands on the brink of ruin. With one son on the verge of throwing away his future for a woman, while another tightens his grip on power at the expense of those closest to him, the cracks in the Forsyte foundation can no longer be ignored. Now, a new teaser trailer gives fans a glimpse into the future of the Forsytes.

Long-buried secrets have surfaced, loyalties have fractured, and the carefully constructed image of respectability has begun to crumble, leaving each member of the family to reckon with the cost of ambition, love, and control. This sets up a second season with a lot of ground to cover as some couples attempt to reclaim their peace, while others attempt to carve out new futures from the wreckage, no matter who they leave behind in the process.

“We’re so pleased with the first season of The Forsytes that we’re thrilled to continue the story into Season 2 with our stellar cast,” said head of scripted content and executive producer for PBS Masterpiece Susanne Simpson. “We’re confident that our Masterpiece audience will quickly come to love the intrigue, romance, and drama that this series brilliantly brings to the screen.”

Will Irene (Millie Gibson) find happiness in her marriage? Will Soames (Joshua Orpin) take over Forsyte & Co.? Will Jo (Danny Griffin) and Louisa (Eleanor Tomlinson) find happiness? Here is everything we know about Season 2 of The Forsytes so far.

When will The Forsytes Season 2 premiere?

The six-season first season debuted on PBS on March 22, 2026, and a second season has already been filmed and, though unconfirmed, may be released in late 2026/early 2027. Please check back here for updates on the release date.

What is The Forsytes about?

The Forsytes is a PBS drama series based on the novels of John Galsworthy that follows the lives, loves, and betrayals of a wealthy, upper-class English family across generations in late-Victorian and Edwardian London. It focuses on themes of love, desire, and ambition, particularly through the turbulent marriage of Soames Forsyte, a possessive solicitor, and his beautiful wife Irene, as well as his cousin Jolyon “Jo” Forsyte and his wife Frances (Tuppence Middleton), whose relationship is thrown into turmoil by the reappearance of Louisa, a past love who refuses to stay in the past.

How did The Forsytes Season 1 end?

In the Season 1 finale of The Forsytes, everything begins to unravel as secrets come to light and carefully maintained appearances collapse. Frances and Jo’s marriage finally breaks when he admits his heart belongs to Louisa. Frances refuses to grant him a divorce, but Jo walks away anyway, choosing love and a life outside the family over status and security.

At the same time, Irene realizes just how trapped she is in her marriage to Soames, whose controlling behavior and gaslighting strip away any illusion of love. As he pushes forward with plans for a country house, she sees it for what it is: a prison. Meanwhile, Philip’s growing connection to Irene adds another layer of tension, hinting at a possible complication in the future.

The fallout extends to Forsyte & Co., where Jo’s moral stand against Soames culminates in a yelling match in front of the entire firm between the cousins. Jo eventually leaves the firm, his family, and his station to be with Louisa and her children, causing scandal for the Forsytes. The episode closes with one final shock as grandmother Ann’s (Francesca Annis) secret is revealed to Jolyon Sr.: a mysterious Harry Falconer, who the firm practically ruined, is her secret grandson.

The season ends with all the Forsytes taking a family photo without Jo, who has left the family to take his place by Louisa instead.

What will The Forsytes Season 2 be about?

The second season will no doubt explore what happens to Jo and Louisa as they attempt to build a life together with no name, no money, and no standing in polite society. At the same time, a jilted Frances sets out to rebuild her broken heart after her husband leaves her. Having aligned herself with Mrs. Ellen Parker Barrington (Josette Simon) and with the support of the Forsyte family, she has formidable allies in her corner.

Irene realizes she is trapped in a bad marriage with Soames, who has lied to her every step of the way. How she chooses to find happiness and express herself will no doubt come to play in Season 2. In the teaser trailer, she attempts to commit herself to her marriage, hoping to find some scrap of happiness. (“At the expense of your dreams?” asks June.)

And finally, Forsyte & Co. has fallen into the hands of Soames and James (Jack Davenport), neither of whom are known for compassion in their strategy. Will their ruthless approach secure the family’s legacy?

When TV Insider asked star Tuppence Middleton about Season 2 and what will become of Frances, she teased what was to come for her character: “I think Frances is a born survivor. She’s going to find her way regardless, and no matter what’s happened to her in the first series, I think that she realizes that the fact that the family’s reputation is at stake and her position in it, but that she also has to take care of what she wants. She realizes, ‘What do I want in this situation?’ Because she doesn’t ever think about that.”

Middleton continues: “She always thinks about what is best for her, what is best for her daughter, and what is best for their family. And I think it’s a real moment for her to sort of come back to herself and realize who she is, with or without Jolyon,” said the actress.
