‘Krypton’: Meet Superman’s Grandfather Seg-El & More in the New Series
More Battlestar Galactica than Smallville, this lavish new drama tells a soaring tale set 200 years before the demise of Superman’s home planet. “We’ve never gone deep into Krypton’s culture or how its society functioned,” says executive producer Cameron Welsh (Ash vs. Evil Dead). Until now.
Krypton finds Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe)—the Man of Steel’s grandpa and heir to the disgraced House of El—far from heroic and living among the socially segmented planet’s lowest caste, called the Rankless. But, Cuffe says, “He’s a bright kid with a good heart who is quick with his wit and his fists.” And when an alien threat strikes, he’ll need both to save the day, as well as some colorful allies, including…
Nyssa-Vex (Wallis Day)
The daughter of Krypton’s Law Guild leader is betrothed to Seg-El. “I don’t think she sees him in a romantic way,” Day says. Still, Seg will have a huge impact on her worldview.
Lyta-Zod (Georgina Campbell)
The Military Guild cadet—an early kin to supervillain General Zod—“is being pressured to hold up the family name,” Campbell says. Her secret affair with Seg likely won’t help.
Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos)
The DC Comics time traveler shocks Seg with a warning from the future. “This is the start of his career as a hero,” Sipos says. If he can’t get Seg to buy his claims about a certain caped do-gooder, it could be the end of it too.
