On Monday, USA Network (and star Ryan Phillippe, via his social media feed) announced that the action-drama Shooter has been renewed for Season 3.

A network release says that Season 3 will be based loosely on Black Light, the second book in the Bob Lee Swagger series by Stephen Hunter. That book series also inspired the 2007 Mark Wahlberg-led feature film of the same name upon which this series is also based, with Phillippe starring as Swagger. Omar Epps, Shantel VanSanten and Cynthia Addai-Robinson also star.

A rough plot outline for Shooter Season 3 says that, “As Bob Lee struggles to put an end to the events of season two, a nemesis reveals mysterious details surrounding his father Earl’s death, leading Bob Lee towards a startling conspiracy that hits close to home.

USA says that production on Season 3 of Shooter begins this January in Los Angeles, but did not list an air date for the new season at this point.
