Want to Be Nicki Minaj? ABC Family Launches Online Casting Call
ABC Family is searching for Nicki Minaj’s pint-sized doppelganger to play the rapper at age 12 in the upcoming comedy series based on her life.
The network is on the hunt for a girl between 11 and 13 to play the star as a young up-and-comer in the as-yet-untitled original comedy that will focus on Minaj’s move from Trinidad to Queens in the 1990s. From now until November 15, would-be Nickis can enter a video for the casting call via the Disney Applause app. The app offers tips on how to create an acceptable audition video, instructions on how to submit and a character description:
Whip-smart, feisty, funny, proud, and can rap a rhyme at a moment’s notice. Nicki is a [sic] very close to her loving but struggling family and while she has her moments of doubt and sadness, she’s bolstered by her own wild spirit…
Yep, sounds like Nicki.
ABC Family announced the series in September. “This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” Minaj said in a press release at that time. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
The half-hour comedy will start shooting this winter in New York. Minaj will executive produce—and also supply some of the music:
