Nicki Minaj Has an ABC Family Show. This Is Not a Drill.
ABC Family wants some more (Nicki), hun.
Nicki Minaj will executive produce and appear in a new scripted single-cam comedy series, ABC Family announced Tuesday. The cable network has given it a series commitment.
The show will be based on the outspoken “Anaconda” rapper’s upbringing, immigrating from Trinidad to New York’s Queens borough in the 1990s. The half-hour laugher will highlight how the singer rose to fame—she famously made it to New York’s prestigious Laguardia High School—as well as feature her eccentric family life. The show will be shot this winter in Queens.
“This is one of the more unique adventures I've ever embarked on,” Minaj said in a press release. “I couldn't be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
The pilot script comes from Kate Angelo, who wrote the feature film Sex Tape, as well as episodes of Will & Grace and The Bernie Mac Show. She will executive produce the series alongside Minaj.
“Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” said ABC Family’s executive vice president Karey Burke. “We’re beyond thrilled to bring her one-of-a-kind story to our channel. Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”AlertMe
