4 Things We Learned About ‘Elementary’ at New York Comic Con
Fans of That Other (Better) Sherlock Holmes Show filled New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Friday afternoon to get the skinny on CBS’s Elementary from the main cast (and new recurring guest star John Noble!) and the creators. Here are the things we learned at the New York Comic Con panel.
The new season will deal with Sherlock’s relapse. “That’s not something that ever goes away,” said Jonny Lee Miller (Sherlock). “It’s not something that’s dealt with and done with.”
Kitty Winter and Jamie Moriarty might return… But odds aren’t looking great for this season, due to Ophelia Lovegood and Natalie Dormer’s schedules. That said, Elementary creator Rob Doherty would love for both to return, and promises to “see what we can cook up.”
John Noble is just lovely. Noble plays Sherlock’s dad Morland, who, from the trailer below and from everything we’ve heard about him, seems like a nasty piece of work. Noble himself, though, is a soft-spoken, astute observationist. “To be in the Holmes family, there’s maybe 2 percent magic to that, and John has it,” Doherty said of the newest addition to the cast. Noble has a penchant for playing dads who have terrible relationships with their sons (i.e. Lord of the Rings‘ Denethor, Fringe‘s Walter Bishop). “Fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, we know that because we all are one,” Noble said.
Lucy Liu is getting back in the director’s chair. She’ll be directing the 22nd episode of the season, and costar Miller sung her praises as “an actor’s director.”
