Shark Week Heads to the Weekend, as Discovery Introduces “Shweekend”
Sharks will now be working for the weekend at Discovery Channel.
Fresh off another successful Shark Week, Discovery will next launch “Shweekend,” a weekend of new Shark Week programming, next month.
“Shweekend” programming will air on Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, August 30, featuring four new programs.
Mythbusters vs. Jaws (Aug. 29 at 9/8c), features the Mythbusters team as they test ideas, theories and angles from the 1975 classic film, in honor of its 40th anniversary.
Also that night, Shark Alley (10/9c) chronicles a day in the life of a juvenile Great White shark as it survives the hunting grounds near South Africa.
On Aug. 30 at 8/7c, Air Jaws: Ring of Death—the seventh installment of a Shark Week staple—natural history producer Jeff Kurr, shark photographer Chris Fallows and shark diver Dickie Chivell are back in South Africa to chronicle more Great Whites. According to Discovery, Chivell looks to capture the breach of a Great White from underwater and topside, resulting in “one of the most spectacular scenes in Shark Week history.”
Still Alive: Shark Surprise (Aug. 30 at 9/8c) recounts the stories of divers who come face-to-face with sharks.
It’s no surprise Discovery would want to live every week like it’s Shark Week. The 2015 edition was the top-rated yet in its 28-year history.
