Silicon Valley, “Runaway Devaluation” (Sunday, April 18, 10/9c, HBO)

Last week’s Silicon Valley premiere was all about reluctant entrepreneur Richard (Thomas Middleditch) and the boys getting their well-deserved, if brief and uncomfortable, view from the top while their app, Pied Piper, was one the best investment opportunities in town. But that’s all kaput now that evil billionaire Gavin Belson (Matt Ross) is suing them. It’s now time for their precipitous fall—and those valleys are low.

All is not lost, however. The stress brings out the best comic kvetching yet among Richard’s bickering buddies Dinesh (unrelenting scene-stealer Kumail Nanjiani) and Gilfoyle (Martin Starr). When Dinesh realizes he won’t have the cash to cover the $5,000 he foolishly pledged to his cousin’s Kickstarter campaign for a ridiculous app that texts “bro” to your friends, he scrambles to make sure the latter can’t make his fundraising goal—but not as fast as Gilfoyle scrambles to help the boy hit it. May the worst man win!
