Joy Behar Is Back on ‘The View’ Amid Panel Shakeup Rumors
What To Know
- Despite rumors of a shakeup, Joy Behar will return to The View on Tuesday (October 27).
- Show representatives have denied reports of Behar being considered a liability.
- Behar recently marked a milestone as the longest-running female host of an American television program.
Joy Behar isn’t going anywhere, despite recent reports that The View was considering firing her in an effort to shake up the Hot Topics table.
The speculation began after Behar dislocated her shoulder when she suffered a fall backstage in late September. The 84-year-old comedian has been absent from the ABC talk show since, with RadarOnline reporting that executives could use this as an excuse to dump her.
“People have been acting like her guide dogs for too long,” an insider told the outlet, claiming that Behar has become a liability for the show. “Someone is always making sure Joy gets where she needs to be, watching the floor and helping her navigate backstage.”
However, the show’s executive producer Brian Teta revealed on Monday’s (October 26) edition of the Behind the Table podcast that Behar will return to The View on Tuesday (October 27). “Joy is back,” Teta said. “We’ve missed her. We’ll see you tomorrow!”
A View representative also told Entertainment Weekly that “there is no truth” to reports that the show is considering axing Behar. A source told the outlet that staffers and Behar’s fellow cohosts are all looking forward to having her back at the table.
“We’ll have something special when you know you’re on your way back. Hurry back,” fellow panelist Whoopi Goldberg said on the show last week when addressing Behar. “It’s not the same at the table. We miss you, we do.”
Earlier this month, Goldberg shared a message from Behar about her injury, reading, “She says, ‘Thanks to everyone who inquired about my recovery. If I was still 21, I’d have bounced back the next day. But, since I’m an old bat, recuperating takes a bit longer. I plan to be back next week to fill everyone in on all the gory details.'”
Behar recently became the longest-running female host of an American television program, having served as a cohost on The View since its debut season in 1997. She had a brief absence between 2013 and 2015 after being let go, but later returned and has been a staple on the show ever since.
“Joy is also celebrating a milestone. She has been here for 28 out of the 30 seasons, which means she has now officially hosted more seasons of an American talk show than any other woman,” Goldberg said on The View‘s Season 30 premiere.
Behar joked, “All I can say is that I was here when the show was in black and white, and Barbara Walters, I said to Barbara, ‘We’re going to get old on the show.’ She said, ‘You’ve got to get old anyway.'”
