Joy Behar Unexpectedly Misses ‘The View’ After New Injury: All the Details

Joy Behar was unexpectedly absent on Thursday’s (October 1) edition of The View.

Sunny Hostin, stepping in as moderator for the day, explained, “So Whoopi [Goldberg] is still out filming a movie, and unfortunately, our dear friend Joy dislocated her shoulder. Yeah, so she’s recovering and will be back soon.”

Hostin continued, “So the two OGs are out today. So apparently, the job went to the next oldest, or let’s say seasoned, cohost. I like seasoned better.”

This isn’t the first time Behar has been missing from the panel due to an injury. Previously, in November 2025, the long-time cohost had to miss the show for several days due to a foot injury. Upon returning to the program at the end of the week, she and her fellow cohosts began the show already seated in solidarity with Behar, who had trouble walking as a result of her injury. She then revealed she broke her toe by dropping an iPad on her foot.

Hostin did not reveal how Behar’s newest injury took place, nor whether her physician husband, Manny Hostin, phoned in to help Behar out with her diagnosis and treatment like he did with her foot injury.

Behar was present for most of the week before Thursday’s show. In fact, she was stepping in as moderator in Goldberg’s absence, while she films her new movie with Netflix in New York City. (The film is titled Women Like Us and also stars Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams, and Vivica A. Fox.)

Guest cohosting in Goldberg’s stead on Thursday was Sherri Shepherd, who said of her return to the show (she previously cohosted from 2007 to 2014 before getting her own talk show), “That’s what I love about The View family, no matter if we’ve never worked together, it’s still a sisterhood. And if you leave, it’s like you’re still my sister.”
