The View is back for Season 30, and at the start of Tuesday’s (September 8) live premiere, the cohosts celebrated a major milestone for Joy Behar.

After starting with a tribute to founder Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg turned the honors to Behar, who was also a member of the Season 1 cast.

“Joy is also celebrating a milestone. She has been here for 28 out of the 30 seasons, which means she has now officially hosted more seasons of an American talk show than any other woman,” Goldberg said.

Behar, in her usual style, responded with a joke. “All I can say is that I was here when the show was in black and white, and Barbara Walters, I said to Barbara, ‘We’re going to get old on the show.’ She said, ‘You’ve got to get old anyway,'” she said.

Sara Haines then offered warm words to Behar, saying, “Honestly, what a privilege that is, because not everyone gets to grow old doing things like this.”

Once again, Behar responded with a cheeky comment to say, “I mean, I’m here longer than the Jolly Green Giant.”

She then noted that Goldberg herself was celebrating a major milestone of 20 years on the show, and she joked, “She used to be white!”

“I mean, things change here. It’s been such an honor learning from both of you how to navigate this table. I think I speak for all of us,” Sunny Hostin offered.

At that, Behar quipped, “You’re saying we’re the queen b**ches.”

“You are, you are,” Hostin confirmed. “But it’s been lovely because I know when I first came on, you said something like, ‘This is a game of volleyball. This is a game where you get the ball, and you hit it. Don’t keep it too long.’ Right. Whoopi would always say, ‘Don’t look at the comments, girl. Don’t look at the comments. Don’t look on social media. Don’t do that to yourself. Don’t read the press. Just be honest with yourself and who you are,’ and you’re our fearless leaders.”

Ana Navarro then joked that she hadn’t gotten any words of wisdom from Behar or Goldberg, joking, “All [Joy] says to me is, ‘¡Cállate la boca!'”

Alyssa Farah Griffin then weighed in with her take, saying, “Thinking of the staying power of this show, I would argue it’s more culturally relevant than ever. Thirty years in… it’s always been powerful, but today we still try, and we drive political discussion. And I think Joy, you say, ‘It’s often imitated but never replicated.’ No one else can do this.”

“Oh, they tried. They tried,” she confirmed.

Goldberg echoed Griffin’s point, saying, “There have been many who tried, and it’s not easy to do. People think this is an easy gig, and you know, in many ways, it is because you get into a rhythm, but it’s really hard because you have to be present. You have to be present because we’re live. So stuff is happening, and you got to be on top of it, and we got to watch and listen and try to, when you have conversations with your friends, and sometimes you just talk like he would talk to you, but you can’t do that on the show because next thing you know, it’s like a big deal, and everybody’s mad at you because you said something that you didn’t think was odd, but 90% of the rest of the world did. So you have to sort of be present and flow… It’s a whole thing. You’ve got to watch the news, read the news… And it’s live, and we are not scripted, and that’s the other thing. What you’re hearing us say is what we think. This is our opinion. People don’t always like it, and that’s the great thing about America. You don’t have to agree with everybody… I believe that the law has not changed, and we’re all entitled to our opinion. We don’t have to like each other’s opinion, but we are entitled to ourselves.”

Goldberg closed the segment with a message to the show’s detractors, promising, “We will do what we think is right for each of us. We don’t always agree. We have different opinions, and we don’t all think the same. And just because we’re women doesn’t mean we’re fighting, because people love to say, ‘Oh, look, the women are battling.’ No, we’ll let you know when we’re battling. You’ll know.”
