The pleasantries between President Donald Trump and Bill Maher appear to be over just a week after the two shared dinner at the White House.
Trump took to Truth Social on Sunday (October 25) to launch a scathing attack on Maher, after taking issue with the comedian’s remarks on Friday’s (October 23) episode of Real Time, where he claimed the president “has the lowest approval rating of any midterm candidate ever.”
Maher also claimed, “Only 1 percent of the Republicans are mentioning [Trump] in their ads. It’s gotten really bad. I mean, the billboards outside of his rallies now just say ‘Lee Greenwood and Friends.'”
“Let’s talk about this COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER, Bill Maher,” Trump began his 1,300-word rant. “He’s got a Low Rated Show on equally Low Rated HBO, which was once, long ago, a Network of Quality and Excitement — But that’s all gone. It’s not “HOT” anymore!”
The president went on to claim that Maher’s friend, producer Chuck LaBella, who previously worked on The Apprentice, would call him “nonstop” to tell him how much Maher “loves” him and wanted him to do his show.
“When I became President, I agreed to meet, after the first one, and the last one, but never agreed to do his show, which he wants me to do, DESPARATELY — It won’t happen!” Trump continued. “When I have watched the show, which isn’t often, it always ends with dishonesty, about me at least, but, who cares?”
Trump also took issue with Maher saying he had low approval ratings. In fact, the president was so annoyed with the Club Random podcast host that he ended up citing CNN as part of his defense.
“Using Fake Polls, he also said I had my Lowest Ratings so far, “and even the Republican Party doesn’t like him,” but that’s not true,” Trump wrote. “I have High Ratings and, more importantly, he said that I’m losing the support and approval of the Republican Party when, in fact, CNN just came out with a Poll showing that I’m at 98 and 99% support within the Republican Party, an All Time Record High.”
Trump continued to mention other CNN polls, including how he topped the “Most Influential President of the Last Century” and “Most Popular Person in the History of the Republican Party.” He said, “And these are CNN Polls, people not exactly in love with me, so, Bill Maher lied, but he lies about everything.”
The president went on to talk about the two dinners Maher attended at the White House. The first took place on March 31, 2025, when Maher dined with Trump, Kid Rock, and UFC chief Dana White. The second dinner took place on October 15 and was also attended by Kid Rock and Stephen A. Smith.
Trump described Maher as “very nervous” during their first meeting. “He asked for a drink. He was very insecure, and he had a seriously bruised eye and nose area, as though somebody had just beaten him up — But it wasn’t me!” he said.
“He looked like hell this time,” the president added, referring to the latest dinner. “Bill was drunk and had alcohol in his hand as he walked through the White House.”
Trump said he thought it was a “good meeting” and that “everybody was happy,” but he felt he “learned nothing” and that “it was a waste of time.”
After the first meeting, Trump said Maher “gave me a good first show, with lots of Laughing Machine laughter, which is a real term, but it is what it is, and then reverted back to his former self, and his old ways.”
The president said Maher’s show after the second dinner “was far worse than the first,” stating, “He went crazy! He’s gutless, because he enjoyed every minute.”
Trump didn’t like how Maher spoke to his former press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who made her first late-night appearance on Friday. “Karoline Leavitt was GREAT on the show, but she started with a biased, dumb SLEAZEBAG, asking questions,” the president wrote. “She defended me, and herself, so well, but couldn’t be comfortable going against Lie after Lie.”
The president ended his post by telling Maher to turn his “laugh machine” off. “It’s a joke when they laugh uncontrollably, even when you say nothing funny,” he said. “And I’m going to have the Republicans not cover you anymore, because they try to talk about you as a guy who is transformative. You’re not transformative, you’re a Loser!”
“I never watched your show much, but I will never watch it again, because it is nothing more than FAKE NEWS that America, and the World, is unfortunately subjected to,” Trump concluded.
