‘The View’ Hosts Torch Megyn Kelly Over Christina Applegate Comments: ‘She’s Like a Fungus’

The View‘s cohosts held nothing back when it came to discussing Megyn Kelly‘s controversial reaction to Christina Applegate‘s misdiagnosis with multiple sclerosis.

After the Dead to Me star tearfully went public with the news a doctor said her health woes were misattributed to MS, sobbing that she was “back to square one” and still suffering from a now-unknown illness, Kelly criticized her on her podcast. The former Fox News firebrand said in her reaction that Applegate had taken listeners of her own podcast on “a wild goose chase” and was “crying now because I guess she no longer gets to be the face of this disease.”

Whoopi Goldberg was visibly irate by Kelly’s comments upon review, directing her comments to Kelly and saying, “Maybe you missed it when a doctor from Cedars–Sinai Medical Center Department of Neurology joined Christina and Jamie-Lynn [Sigler, cohost], noting that misdiagnoses of this particular disease are common because there isn’t a single test that determines someone has MS, just a list of criteria. So let me ask you, ma’am, you think Christina wanted to have MS so she could have a good time? Are you crazy?!”

Alyssa Farah Griffin then spoke up to offer a defense of Applegate, saying, “She literally gets around in a wheelchair. She is in constant pain. Christina describes putting her feet down and immediately feeling pain, and she’s not healthy. Now that they know it may not be MS, now it’s even scarier. If you’ve ever dealt with misdiagnosis — and mine was never as serious, but with my endometriosis for years, saying, ‘No, that pain is not real. There’s nothing there.’ Now she’s at square one, trying to figure out what is wrong with her.”

Sara Haines then spoke up and was also clearly furious over Kelly’s comments. “Who wants to be ‘the face’ of MS? The reason she’s crying is because it’s a debilitating, degenerative, neurological disease, and she’s hurting. That is why. Talk about picking someone while they’re down… She got a diagnosis, wanted to help other people win out in the community, now feeling the pain of possibly not knowing what her identity is, and more importantly, what her diagnosis is. Megyn Kelly sold her soul for politics. So which one did a better job here? She literally has sunk so low in my book.”

While Ana Navarro chose to ultimately sidestep “the Megyn Kelly of it all” when it came to discussing Applegate’s health, she did still get one dig in to note, “She’s like a fungus that thrives on oxygen that she gets by purposely creating outrage.” Navarro went on to applaud Applegate and other high-profile celebrities who’ve spoken out about their experiences with degenerative diseases, including Michael J. Fox whose work on Parkinson’s awareness has helped with her own husband’s devastating diagnosis.

Sunny Hostin then spoke up as well and condemned Kelly for her words. “I often say on this show, when you have a platform, there is great responsibility with that. And when someone is using it for good, unlike Megyn Kelly, I think they should be applauded… She’s an ugly person,” she said.

Goldberg got the last word on the matter and once again spoke directly to Kelly, saying, “The idea that you would come out and say something like this, Megyn, it’s just unbelievable.” After Hostin chimed in to say that it’s “ugly,” Goldberg continued, “Forget the ugly. It’s just unbelievable that you don’t have the wherewithal to recognize that someone is saying, ‘This is what’s happening to me.’ That’s how we get through our lives. We connect to each other. That’s what this is about. And I’m going to connect to you and say rethink your position on this because you’re wrong.”
