Girls5eva is back!

The 90s girl group sensation returns for a second season on Peacock on Thursday, May 5, with three episodes at launch. The rest of the season will be released weekly on Thursdays. Series stars Sara Bareilles (Dawn), Renée Elise Goldsberry (Wickie), Paula Pell (Gloria), and Busy Philipps (Summer) and showrunner, creator, and executive producer Meredith Scardino announced the news and revealed a first look clip as part of their panel at SXSW in Austin, Texas. (Guest star Andrew Rannells hosted the discussion.)

“What do you do for a living? Lay railroad tracks? Are you in Stomp?” the doctor asks as the rest of the group surrounds Gloria in the hospital bed in the sneak peek. It turns out she needs a knee replacement, but due to their success, the PR team wants to start the promo train immediately, so that by April, the world will be begging for their album. (That includes “Instagram takeovers, charity concerts, cooking dog food with Rachael Ray.”) The only problem? Gloria would need 12 weeks to recover from the surgery. Watch the video below for more.

“Season 2 of Girls5eva answers the simple question: What would happen if Girls5eva was renewed for a second season?  We are so excited to share the next chapter in Dawn, Wickie, Gloria, and Summer’s journey as they enter ‘Album Mode’ and embark on making their first studio album on their own terms,” Scardino said.

Joining Scardino as executive producers are Jeff Richmond, Tina Fey, Robert Carlock, David Miner, and Eric Gurian.
