‘Star Trek’ Universe Expands on Paramount+ — Plus, ‘Section 31’ Spinoff Update
It seems that Star Trek could be another universe with a series set in college (following The Boys one ordered to series and the Arrowverse one in the works).
Paramount+ has a new series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, in the works from CBS Studios and Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout, Deadline reports. It would be “set among the college of cadets mentored for leadership roles in the United Federation of Planets space force.”
This news comes after Star Trek: Discovery‘s Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) left the crew to teach at the Starfleet Academy after leading a training exercise that went wrong earlier this season (pictured above). But it should be noted that no details have been revealed as to when this new potential series would take place, and Discovery is now in the future.
As for another Star Trek series in the works at Paramount+, the Section 31 series with Michelle Yeoh as her Discovery character Philippa Georgiou, it is “expected to get a pickup soon,” according to Deadline. That show has been a possibility since 2018. Yeoh was last seen on Discovery in 2020, in a Season 3 episode that saw her leave Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the others for a “second shot,” in “a time when the Mirror universe and the Prime universe still aligned.”
The Star Trek Universe on Paramount+ already includes Discovery (resuming its fourth season on February 10 and renewed for a fifth), Picard (premiering its second season on March 3 and renewed for a third), Strange New Worlds (debuting on May 5 and already renewed for a second season) Lower Decks (returning in summer 2022 with its third season and renewed for a fourth), and Prodigy (airing its first season and renewed for a second).
