Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mother, Nancy Guthrie, has been missing for nine months — and Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos shared a rare evidence update on the case.
On Friday, October 30, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department shared via X a new statement from Nanos.
“The Nancy Guthrie Task Force continues to work with our labs in hopes of furthering our DNA analysis in this investigation,” the update began.
Nanos’ message continued, “Earlier this month, investigators traveled to Florida to meet with lab scientists to see what more could be done to advance the case. A number of ideas were discussed, and we continue to work with all of our partners to solve this case.”
To conclude the X post, the sheriff wrote, “We want to remind the public that no tip is too small. Even the smallest piece of information could be critical to this investigation. If you know something, please call 88-CRIME or 1-800-CALL-FBI.”

The statement echoed Nanos’ recent remarks in a radio interview on KVOI AM 1030’s Bill Buckmaster Show. When asked if he thought Nancy’s case would eventually be solved, the sheriff was optimistic.
“This case isn’t cold because we still have evidence that we’re working with,” Nanos explained. “Just last week, we sent a team of investigators to our labs in Florida to meet with those lab techs.”
Additionally, he said labs in Kansas, San Francisco, Washington, and Phoenix are contributing.
“We’re constantly talking about what we can do with the evidence we have, and how we can get to a point where we feel comfortable that we can make an identification.”
Nancy was last seen at her Catalina Foothills home on the evening of January 31, and her family reported her missing on February 1. Despite investigators releasing photos of a masked suspect on her front porch and publishing alleged ransom notes, no suspect has been named in the case. Savannah has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to an arrest.
