Tom Hiddleston, Audra McDonald & More TV Stars Nominated for 2020 Tonys
The nominees for the 74th Annual Tony Awards have been unveiled and include no shortage of recognizable faces from TV as well as film, including Audra McDonald, Mary-Louise Parker and Tom Hiddleston.
The ceremony itself, which has yet to announce an air date, will be presented virtually, another awards show first due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Broadway has been hit especially hard by the virus, with all shows now suspended through May 2021, according to the Broadway League.
“Our Broadway community has been incredibly resilient during this difficult time, and we look forward to paying tribute to the performers and artists,” Tony Award-winner James Monroe Iglehart, who announced the nominees in a livestream on Thursday, October 15, said in a statement put out by the American Theatre Wing, which presents the Tony Awards with the Broadway League.

Tom Hiddleston

Blair Underwood
Nomination: Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for A Soldier’s Play
Known on TV for: Underwood most recently appeared alongside Octavia Spencer in Netflix’s Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker; his other TV credits include Dear White People, When They See Us, Quantico, and L.A. Law.
Laura Linney
Nomination: Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for My Name is Lucy Barton
Known on TV for: Linney has garnered critical acclaim for her most recent TV role as Wendy Byrd in Netflix’s drama Ozark.
Audra McDonald
Nomination: Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune
Known on TV for: McDonald is best known for shows including The Good Fight and Private Practice. She most recently lent her vocals to Apple TV+’s. animated comedy, Central Park.
Mary-Louise Parker

Known on TV for: Best known for her role as Nancy Botwin in Weeds, Parker’s TV credits also include Mr. Mercedes, Billions and The West Wing.
