The fourth season of Invincible has come to an end, and with it, the end of the Viltrumite War. As the eight-episode season wraps, many questions remain unresolved, while the heroes are left reeling — physically, emotionally, and politically — from a battle that has forever changed the fate of Earth and the galaxy.

As of July 2025, Season 5 is in development, with Invincible creators Robert Kirkman and Simon Racioppa stating that they plan for the animated series to run for roughly seven to nine seasons to fully adapt the comic book series.

“The way Simon and I have mapped out, where we would kinda follow the comic and where the breaks would be, roughly eight seasons. Could be seven, could be 10,” Kirkman told Collider. jokingly adding: “Or nine. I can be greedy.”

So, with Season 5 on the way, what is in store for the heroes next? Here is a look at where Season 4 left Mark, the Coalition, and everything we know so far from Invincible Season 5.

When will Invincible Season 5 premiere?

Invincible Season 5 will likely premiere in early 2027, but there might be an outside chance of an early release if all voice work and production are completed before schedule.

How does Invincible Season 4 end?

The Season 4 finale of Invincible, “Making the World a Better Place,” ends on a grim stalemate: After returning home traumatized from the war, Mark (Steven Yeun) is confronted by Thragg (Lee Pace), who reveals the surviving Viltrumites plan to secretly infiltrate Earth and rebuild their race using humans, forcing Mark to accept a tense truce to avoid global annihilation. Known as the Great Resurgence, Viltrumite refugees will secretly populate with Earthlings to build back up their numbers.

In a chilling final twist, Allen (Seth Rogen) learns of a hidden weapon, left to him by the deceased Thaedus (Peter Cullen), his former superior who was killed by Thragg. “I believe with every fiber of my being that the universe will never be safe until all Viltrumite life has ended,” says the deceased former head of the Coalition of Planets. The weapon? An update of the Scourge Virus, capable of wiping out all Viltrumites, including superheroes Invincible/Mark, Omni-Man/Nolan (J.K. Simmons), and Oliver (Christian Convery).

At home, Mark learns that Eve (Gillian Jacobs) had an abortion after finding out she was pregnant and terrified that he would never return from the war. Oliver is in an induced coma after being literally ripped apart by Thragg, and Nolan takes Debbie (Sandra Oh) to space for the first time to be with her son.

What will Invincible Season 5 focus on?

Though nothing is confirmed, there is a strong possibility that Season 5 could draw from the comic storyline The Death of Everyone, centering on the conflict between Mark and Dinosaurus (Matthew Rhys) and positioning Dinosaurus as the primary antagonist.

At the same time, it is possible that the surviving Viltrumites on Earth could resurface as the series digs deeper into the legacy of Emperor Argall (Frank Welker), particularly his hidden connection to Omni-Man/Nolan Grayson, potentially reshaping the power dynamics moving forward.

Who will star in Invincible Season 5?

Expect much of the same stellar voice cast, including Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson/Invincible, Sandra Oh as his mother, Debbie Grayson, and J.K. Simmons as his father, Omni-Man/Nolan Grayson.

Gillian Jacobs stars as Atom Eve, Seth Rogen as Allen, Walton Goggins as Cecil, Zazie Beetz as Amber, Zachary Quinto as Robot, Chris Diamantopoulos as Donald, Ben Schwartz as Shapesmith, Clancy Brown as Damien Darkblood, Jay Pharoah as Bulletproof, Matthew Rhys as Dinosaur, Mark Hamill as Art, and and Lee Pace as the villain Thragg, the ruler of the Viltrum Empire.

The series is produced by Skybound Animation Studio. The executive producers are Kirkman, David Alpert, Simon Racioppa, Margaret M. Dean, Catherine Winder, Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg. The co-executive producers are Helen Leigh and Cory Walker.
