‘9-1-1’: The 118 Is Questioned After a Rescue Goes Terribly Wrong in Sneak Peek (VIDEO)

Uh-oh, the 118 is in trouble in the Thursday, April 2, episode of 9-1-1.

The “Where There’s Smoke” preview that aired after Season 9 Episode 15 focuses entirely on one incident and the fallout of it. “How did this all go so wrong?” is the main question after, as the promo details it, “A rescue goes up in smoke.”

As the 118’s captain, Chimney (Kenneth Choi) puts it, “It was just a bad day.”

But, as is revealed, “You told a young mother it was safe to return back home, only to have the building burn down later that same day.” Watch the video above for a look at Chimney, Hen (Aisha Hinds), and Eddie (Ryan Guzman) facing questions as well as the 118 on the streets in L.A. and what they deal with there — including what sends them back into the engine when it’s surrounded.

However, we can’t help but notice that it doesn’t look like Buck (Oliver Stark) is with them. In the previous episode, he admitted to an opioid addiction, and, rather than send him to rehab, Chimney led the 118 in banding together and helping him through the withdrawal at home. He was doing better at the end of an episode, but Chimney did tell the chief. Now it’s just a question if him reporting himself will bode well for Buck’s future at the LAFD. Has that decision not been made yet when this incident occurs? Is Buck there but just not shown in the preview?

The official logline for the episode reveals why he’s absent from the incident: “The 118 must account for every decision made during a recent fire call when the team’s actions are investigated for possible mistakes. Meanwhile, Buck works behind the scenes to support his team as he waits to learn if he can return to the station.”

When TV Insider spoke with showrunner Tim Minear about Episode 13, Buck and Eddie’s road trip that resulted in the car accident and kidnapping that led to Buck’s opioid addiction, he teased, “I got some big twists and turns coming up. I mean, hopefully, you’ll find that the last run of episodes grow out of everything that sort of came before [in] this season on some level. Things have been set up a little sneakily earlier on, and all that will come to fruition. But yeah, there’s a few jaw-dropping moments coming up, I think.”
