‘Jane the Virgin’: Will Michael Live or Die in the Season 3 Premiere?
Last season’s finale of Jane the Virgin featured a cliffhanger that was loco even by telenovela standards. After tying the knot, Jane (Gina Rodriguez, above, with Andrea Navedo and Ivonne Coll) and Michael (Brett Dier) were poised to consummate their union—until he was shot by his police partner, who turned out to be back-from-the-dead crime lord and master of disguise Rose (Bridget Regan).

Monday night’s premiere picks up minutes later and, “you’ll find out Michael’s medical state,” promises executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman. “But you won’t know if he lives or dies until the end of the episode.”
The present-day hospital scenes are juxtaposed against a vintage Jane-and-Michael flashback. “The danger he’s in now makes the past story more poignant,” Urman says.
And regardless of Michael’s fate, Jane will finally lose her V-card during Season 3. “She’ll grapple with it being anticlimactic, so I hope that keeps it from being anticlimactic,” Urman says. “We’re going to use magical realism to dramatize what the audience can’t see…which is full-frontal nudity.”
Jane the Virgin, Season Premiere, Monday, October 17, 9/8c, The CW.
