CBS Renews ‘Salvation’ for Season 2
There’s more Salvation coming next summer on CBS.
The series, which premiered in July, focuses on an asteroid that is just months away from colliding with Earth and the team working together to divert the asteroid as well as impending nuclear war. On Wednesday, CBS gave a second season renewal for 13 more episodes to the serialized drama that will air in the summer of 2018.
The series stars Santiago Cabrera, Jennifer Finnigan, Charlie Rowe, Jacqueline Byers, Rachel Drance and Ian Anthony Dale, who will be pulling double duty along with his expanded role on the current season of CBS’s long-running crime drama, Hawaii Five-0.
Liz Kruger, Craig Shapiro, Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Stuart Gillard and Peter Lenkov are executive producers for CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout.

I guess the live ratings don't count as much anymore. Lots of viewers watch it later via ON DEMAND/DVR/STREAMING.... So I guess there is some $$ to be made that way. Not really that informed about the business side of it, but CBS must think there is some profit to be made by renewing it.
I'm happy, because I really enjoyed it.

I have along list of favorite broadcast shows. So broadcast is far from dead for me.
Here is a quick list of just some of my favorites:
Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D- by far my top show. The action sequences, above par CGI, intricate sci-fi plots and all around great entertainment season after season. One of the few broadcast shows that improve with each successive season. Last season (4) employed 3 arcs. Ghost Rider was fun, but LMD and Hydra arcs were nothing short of epic! Any sci-fi fan should be watching this show.
Once Upon a Time- not quite as consistent as my top show above but when this fantasy show is focused, nothing entertains me more. The second part of last season was truly a fantasy lovers dream.
Timeless- so relieved NBC reversed the cancelation order of this educational fantasy adventure, one of my top new shows last season
The Good Doctor- very solid new show, probably my favorite new show this season. Emmy nominations for Freddy are in order!
Kevin (Probably) Saves the World- Jason Ritter is amazing in this. I really feel good after viewing this show. Not sure he can nab an Emmy (competition is fierce) but his late great father John must be looking down and proudly smiling. I have tears in my eyes typing this once again.
Designated Survivor- One of my top new shows last season. Maggie Q is EVERYTHING to me. All in all solid acting and smart scripts. The political storylines are almost as intriguing as the conspiracy themes. The ingredients are there for a great show, but the mix isn't quite right yet. Perhaps too many showrunner transitions. In any case the potential is there and I always find it highly watchable.
The Exorcist- a horror masterpiece. Extremely well produced and scary as anything I have ever seen on broadcast TV. This really belongs on FOX's sister cable channel FX. It would fit better there. Might be to extreme for broadcast.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend - sometimes this is hilarious, sometimes silly, but Rachel Bloom is super talented and should be nominated for an Emmy year after year. Another show better suited for cable. I read SHOWTIME passed on this.
Ten Days In the Valley- sorely underrated new mystery. Kyra deserves an Emmy nomination for sure. This show has the aura of a cheap cable show though, unlike all of the other ABC shows. Disney owns myriad cable channels where this show might be better suited.
I also enjoy most of the ABC sitcoms *especially The Middle) and CW's DC shows (but they don't impress me like Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D)
I can go on and on with more shows, but my point is that broadcast still has lots of solid entertainment and viewers are just drifting away ignoring these shows. Meanwhile many cable and streaming shows are overrated. They get more publicity and critical raves, but I don't find many of them very appealing.

Good news! Maybe there'll be more space stuff in the 2nd season. (Although I bet the writers are huddled in a locked room somewhere mumbling "oh no, what are we going to do with this story???" :-p )

What are they going to do? They left so many things open at the end of the season that there are lots of plot points to continue.

Haha, I know. But now they have to deal with people who are heading INTO SPACE. With NO WAY BACK.
But you're right, that's half the fun: write yourself into a corner... and then find a way to squirm out. 😀

We don't know if the rocket lifted off or even if it can lift off. Do you think they're going to take off with two main characters still back on the ground?

If the second season is only half as good as the first , I'll be satisfied. By far my favorite summer show and among my favorites all season long.

I thought I heard a reference to the rocket not blasting off for a period of time yet (30 days, maybe? I don't know). Anyway, IIRC, the people inside have no way to contact those on the outside, and maybe vice-versa, so I guess they're really just on their own in there. I hope the rocket has flight instructions. 😀
And that's one of the things that left major questions in the finale, about who's in and who's out of the rocket team.

I didn't catch that reference. If the Russian nukes do reach the US, would they want to take off before they get here, or would they want to wait until the dust settles a bit? I find it hard to believe they left no means of communication with the outside world.

The reference to the rocket not blasting off right away? I might have actually read that somewhere, I don't recall. But I think there really was a mention that people inside the "silo" (for lack of better word) couldn't communicate with those outside, which is why Liam ran out at the last minute to tell Darius about his Great Idea. I still believe that that final scene of rounding up the space travelers was somewhat haphazardly done, so there were probably a lot of inconsistencies that they didn't worry about at the time. Admittedly the finale of the show is already hazy in my mind, so some details are bit fuzzy.

I haven't seen the latest episode yet, but I wasn't too thrilled with the first three. It all seems rather silly to me.

Regarding INHUMANS : the third episode was by far my favorite. The fourth one was by far the worst, but still watchable enough. Hoping to see some improvements for the remaining four and of course a terrific finale.
