“There’s been a plague.” And with those four words spoken by a young Chechen girl in 2017, Cole (Aaron Stanford) knew at the end of last episode that, once again, he and Cassandra (Amanda Schull) had failed to save humanity from the most devilish virus ever. The show picks up with a rough-looking Cole wandering through a nightmarish world, in which the disease has already claimed 31 million lives.

After rejecting a deal with military colony Spearhead for use of its Core to replace their own dead one in order to bring Cole back from 2017, Jones (Barbara Sukowa) decides her soldiers need to go to Spearhead and take their Core by force. Perhaps the most interesting thing about Jones and Spearhead leader John Foster (Xander Berkeley) is that we’re not sure who’s lying about the best use of the Core or who’s simply too bullheaded to even consider the possibility that they’re wrong.
