12 Monkeys, “Cassandra Complex” (Friday, January 30, 9/8c, Syfy)

This sci-fi thriller based on the Bruce Willis movie got off to a bit of a rocky start, but with most of the time-traveling exposition finally out of the way, the show can concentrate on the twisty, years-spanning quest to discover the source of the virus that, by 2043, has nearly wiped out humanity. Cole (Aaron Stanford) and Cassandra (Amanda Schull) realize one of Cassandra’s colleagues in Haiti, Dr. Henri Toussaint (Lyriq Bent), might know something about the Army of the 12 Monkeys. Unfortunately, Henri is dead in 2015, so Cole goes back to 2014 to get the intel from the still-living doctor. Stanford and Schull have settled into an easy chemistry that provides a nice balance to all the tense action sequences.
