Ahoy mateys! Our Flag Means Death is setting sail quite soon as Max unveiled the first teaser for the second season of its pirate rom-com starring Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi.

Officially set to debut Thursday, October 5 on the streamer, Season 2 kicks off with three episodes and will drop two new episodes a week on subsequent Thursdays through October 26 when the finale installment arrives. In the thrilling minute-long teaser, above, Stede (Darby) takes up the search for Ed, a.k.a. Blackbeard (Waititi), who is holding a bit of a grudge after thinking he’d been abandoned by his love on purpose in Season 1.

“Dear Ed, I love everything about you, I love being near you, breathing the same air…,” Stede’s voiceover says, conveying the longing for a reunion. Meanwhile, Blackbeard is having a harder time with his lovesick feelings, saying, “F**k you, Stede Bonnet.”

The teaser continues as Prince‘s “The Beautiful Ones,” plays in the background. Different snippets unveil exciting things as Blackbeard crashes a sea-set wedding, seemingly stealing the cake toppers to create mini figurines of himself and Stede. Meanwhile, Stede is looking high and low for the infamous pirate, crossing paths with Minnie Driver‘s Anne Bonny in the process.

Meanwhile, Spanish Jackie (Leslie Jones) has a new blonde hookup (could it be Buttons [Ewen Bremner] or The Swede [Nat Faxon]?), Stede’s getting more involved with hand-to-hand combat, and Jim (Vico Ortiz) and Frenchie (Joel Fry) are going through it as members of Blackbeard’s hardcore leather-clad crew.

For those less familiar with the Max Original, Our Flag Means Death is based very loosely on the adventures of Stede Bonnet, an 18th-century man who traded in his cushy environment for swashbuckling life on the high seas. A fateful run-in with the infamous and fearsome pirate Blackbeard changes the course of their lives forever as they found more than friendship during their adventures in Season 1, they found love. Now, in Season 2, they just have to survive it.

Along with Waititi, Darby, Ortiz, Bremner, Fry, Faxon, Jones, and Driver, Season 2 of Our Flag Means Death features Samson Kayo, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Samba Schutte, Ruibo Qian, Madeleine Sami, Anapela Plataivao, Errol Shand, and Bronson Pinchot.

Executive produced by Waititi, showrunner David Jenkins, Garrett Basch, Dan Halsted, Adam Stein, and Antoine Douaihy, Our Flag Means Death Season 2 was filmed in Auckland, New Zealand.
