It’s been some time since there’s been news about HBO and HBO Max‘s many Game of Thrones spinoffs, but thankfully George R.R. Martin is offering up some fresh information on the projects in development.

Writing on his website under his “Not a Blog” tab, Martin addresses what he’s been up to over the past year, particularly when it comes to his many TV projects. Revealing that those shows have taken up a lot of his time, Martin wrote, “I have seen some comments out there questioning how much I am involved in these new series. The answer is: a lot. Deeply, heavily involved in every one of the new shows.”

The first bit of news he provides is that House of the Dragon, which is set to debut on HBO sometime this year, has officially wrapped filming in London and is currently in post-production. The first real footage for the series was unveiled later last year in October 2021, giving fans of Martin’s fantasy world a taste of what they can expect from the Targaryen-centric series set years before Game of Thrones. Martin serves as co-creator and executive producer on House of the Dragon.

Among the other tidbits, Martin shared is that another spinoff focused on Lord Corlys Velaryon, who is being portrayed by Steve Toussaint in House of the Dragon, is currently in the pilot script phase as Rome‘s Bruno Heller takes the helm. Originally referred to as Nine Voyages, the spinoff, according to Martin, will now be called The Sea Snake.

Another previously teased spinoff, Ten Thousand Ships, has gained creative traction as Martin notes the Nymeria-focused series already has a few drafts from showrunner Amanda Segel. Also formerly mentioned is the Dunk & Egg series, which Martin revealed is being helmed by Steve Conrad. Martin said, “He’s determined to do a faithful adaptation of the stories, which is exactly what I want; these characters and stories are very precious to me.”

As for the format, Martin shared that the first season of this series would cover the events of his first Dunk & Egg novella, The Hedge Knight. Despite previous reports about the show’s title being Dunk & Egg, Martin refuted this and shared that the current titles in the running for this show range from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms to The Hedge Knight.

The author also shared updates on rumored animated series, revealing that one title includes The Golden Empire and it’s set in Yi Ti. Beyond these details, the writer remained mum, but promises that House of the Dragon “is coming soon.” Stay tuned for more updates as the projects take shape at HBO and HBO Max.
