The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is nearly back with its long-awaited fourth season, and things have changed a bit since Season 3 streamed in 2019.

The Prime Video original series is ditching the binge format for its latest chapter, instead opting for a weekly drop schedule kicking off on Friday, February 18. Prime Video will release the first two episodes of Season 4 and release two more installments each Friday for four weeks.

Before fans looking forward to a binge get bummed though, creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is revealing a good reason behind the switch. “We f**king love it,” she told TVLine about the non-binge format. “Our show is dense. There’s a lot of s**t going on. And attention must be paid. We’re really happy that they are doing this.”

Despite the convenience of an entire season binge, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel‘s new release format will keep eyes on the show longer. Over the years, many platforms have taken up the weekly release schedule to build hype for shows from week to week. Prime Video has done this before, memorably for its second season of mega-hit The Boys.

By dropping an episode or two once a week, viewers can reflect, theorize, discuss with friends, and ponder at length the plots occurring on their screens. Bingeable seasons don’t exactly become watercooler series the way that shows released on weekly schedules do.

Shows like WandaVision, Succession, The Handmaid’s Tale, and more have proven that premium networks and streaming can dominate the conversation just as Prime Video’s The Boys and more. And it looks like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel aims to do that as well with Season 4.

So sit back and enjoy. Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) is putting on a show that lasts longer than a weekend binge and we can’t wait.
