‘Almost Paradise’ Renewed for Season 2 — at IMDb TV
Dean Devlin and Christian Kane are going to have two series in their second seasons on IMDb TV soon.
Amazon’s free streaming service has picked up Almost Paradise for a second season. The drama originally aired on WGN America in 2020, and the first season is now available to stream on IMDb TV.
The action series was created by Devlin and Gary Rosen, who will serve as co-showrunners. It reunited Devlin with Kane following the original Leverage (2008-2012) and The Librarians (2014-2018). They’re also working together on Leverage: Redemption, the sequel to the TNT drama. That, too, will be back on IMDb TV for a second season.
Almost Paradise follows Kane’s Alex Walker, a former U.S. DEA agent who is forced into early retirement and relocates to a small tropical island in the Philippines, following his partner’s betrayal and a life-threatening battle with hypertension. Now, the DEA’s most resourceful undercover operative runs the gift shop in a luxury resort hotel. That resort attracts the rich, powerful and sometimes criminal elite from around the world — and they’re often on a collision course with Alex.
So while he may try to begin a tranquil new life, he gets pulled back into a world of dangerous people and deadly situations, either through his friends in the local police, Kai Mendoza (Samantha Richelle) and Ernesto Alamares (Arthur Acuña), or by running into people from his old life. The problem: He likes it.
Joining Devlin and Rosen as executive producers on Almost Paradise are Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson. (Roskin and Olschan-Wilson also serve as executive producers on Leverage: Redemption.)
News of the pickup comes two months after IMDb TV announced that Leverage: Redemption (which released its first season in two parts on July 9, 2021 and October 8) will be back for a second season.
