‘This Is Us’: 6 Mind-Blowing Season 5 Finale Reveals

This Is Us continues to one-up itself with each passing season and with only one more to go after the fifth, the stakes are even higher.
The Season 5 finale installment, “The Adirondacks” confirmed several aspects of the Pearson family’s future, from Kevin’s next steps to a major twist for Kate’s relationship. Below, we’re breaking down all of the wildest revelations made in the episode that left viewers asking more questions, so beware of spoilers ahead.

Kate & Phillip Are a Thing
The co-workers didn’t really hit it off earlier this season, but something clearly goes very right between Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Phillip (Chris Geere) in the future if they’re getting married. The revelation makes sense of previously-revealed flash-forward sequences featuring Toby (Chris Sullivan) though. As some viewers might recall, in the future when the Pearsons appear to be gathering around Rebecca’s (Mandy Moore) deathbed, Randall (Sterling K. Brown) calls Toby to join them. It’s seemed as though he was no longer married to Kate, and this only solidifies the details.
Kevin's Future
While he didn’t end up wedding Madison (Caitlin Thompson) in the present timeline, Kevin’s (Justin Hartley) future looks fairly bright. In the flash-forward sequence, his hotel room is filled with women’s clothing, suggesting he’s in a relationship. He does seem fairly flirty with Madison as well, but it’s unclear if she’s the one he ends up with. Either way, viewers with sharp eyes would have spotted the wedding ring on Kevin’s finger in the Season 4 finale flash-forward, so we’re convinced he’ll find his happy ending. The only question is, will it be with Madison or someone else?
Randall's Making Headlines
In the flash-forward, Kevin’s bedside table has a magazine flipped open to an article about Randall in which he’s called a “Rising Star.” What Randall’s a rising star of remains unclear, but maybe it’s an indication of more political pursuits? As viewers have come to know over the years, Randall likes helping people when he can, we can only imagine he’d want to extend his efforts further beyond Philly, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Nicky Is Married
Although the Season 4 finale teased Nicky’s (Griffin Dunne) marriage with a flash-forward that included him wearing a ring on that finger, the Season 5 flash-forward to Kate’s wedding also confirmed that he’ll be married sooner than later. While we don’t know any details beyond the fact that he’s married, we’re hoping that his bride will be first and only love Sally who he was looking up online in the penultimate episode.
The House Was Rebecca's Idea
Viewers have seen the dream home designed by Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) in flash-forward sequences, but the question of how it came to be was finally answered in the finale. Following the non-wedding with Madison, Rebecca tasks Kevin with building the home for her and the rest of the family. It’s a request that is driven by the uncertainty surrounding her Alzheimer’s. We just hope Rebecca gets to enjoy the house before she can’t remember things anymore. Viewers can definitely look forward to seeing the abode come together in the final season as well, especially since Kevin pulls out a piece of stationary from his tux pocket that features the logo for Big Three Homes, A Pearson Family Construction Company.
Malik Might Go to Harvard
In an exchange between Déjà (Lyric Ross) and Malik (Asante Blackk), she learns that her boyfriend has not only been accepted to top schools around Pennsylvania but also Harvard in Boston. The situation could determine the young couple’s fate especially if they have to deal with going long distance. Will their romance survive or pay the price for the sake of their professional futures?
