Peter Krause’s Next TV Role After ‘9-1-1’: ‘The Pitt,’ ‘The White Lotus’ & More Suggestions

Peter Krause as Bobby — '9-1-1' Season 8 Premiere 'Buzzkill'
Disney / Christopher Willard

It’s been just about a week, and we already know that Peter Krause will be back on 9-1-1 even after Bobby’s death (so heartbreaking), but we’re still looking ahead at how he could return to our screens after that, since we are going to be looking at the show continuing on without him next season.

Krause has starred across multiple TV shows for multiple seasons already — including Sports NightSix Feet UnderParenthood, and the aforementioned 9-1-1 — and he’s shown that he has quite the range. And with more TV shows on than ever before, from broadcast networks to cable to streaming, there are plenty of options for what he could do next, from another drama to a comedy to even something new.

“Peter’s great. We talk all the time, and I can’t wait to do something else with him. I just think he’s one of a kind,” 9-1-1 showrunner Tim Minear told TV Insider while discussing Bobby’s death.

So, below, TV Insider has compiled a list of TV roles we’d love to see Peter Krause tackle next. Some get pretty specific (The PittThe White Lotus), while some are more generic. Check them out, take our poll, and then head to the comments section to let us know what you’d like to see him do.

9-1-1

Listen, let us live in denial for a bit that maybe there’s a way for Krause to return as Bobby for good, versus just a dream/hallucination/flashback. We’ll take the flimsiest of excuses to have our Captain Nash back on our screens in Season 9. But beyond that, there’s always the potential for a long-lost twin (let’s go the soap-y route) or even a completely new character over on 9-1-1: Nashville (though it just wouldn’t be the same). After all, Tim Minear wants to work with him again and Julian Works guest starred on 9-1-1 before starring in the spinoff, Lone Star. Sure, this would be completely different — the same actor playing two major roles — but we’d take it. — Meredith Jacobs

American Love Story

Krause could stay in the Ryan Murphy Universe and head on over to the upcoming FX series American Love Story, which will explore John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette’s romance. The show is still rounding out its cast, and Krause would be excellent as Richard Freeman, Bessette’s stepfather. Given the tragedy that befalls the couple, Krause’s role would be bigger than you think. — Avery Thompson

The Gilded Age

Society needs Krause in a period drama. The world would shift on its axis if the actor joined the cast of The Gilded Age as a dashing steel magnate who catches Bertha’s (Carrie Coon) eye. Look, Gilded Age fans, if history repeats itself in the show, it’s not looking good for Bertha and George (Morgan Spector). You know Krause and Coon would have incredible chemistry. George, can you fight?! — Avery Thompson

Noah Wyle as Robby and Shawn Hatosy as Abbott — 'The Pitt' Season 1 Episode 12
John Johnson / Max

The Pitt

This isn’t just because the Max medical drama is my latest obsession. Just imagine how good Peter Krause and Noah Wyle together onscreen would be! Krause could come in as another doctor in the hospital with some sort of contentious history with Robby, Langdon’s (Patrick Ball) sponsor and perhaps fellow doctor or patient, a vet/combat medic who served with Abbot (Shawn Hatosy) — remember, it’s going to be the Fourth of July in Season 2 — or just a patient who’s present across most of the shift for at least a major recurring role. — Meredith Jacobs

The White Lotus

It’s time for Krause to come on home to HBO. The actor needs a bit of a break from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, too, so The White Lotus Season 4 is perfect for him. Send the man off to the French Alps or Greece for a handful of months and allow him sink into a role that’s sure to earn him an Emmy nod (and possible win). Let Peter Krause cook as a newly-divorced dad who brings his two teenagers to The White Lotus in an attempt to mend his relationship with them. Maybe he’d find love with a freshly single Victoria Ratliff (Parker Posey)… — Avery Thompson

Comedy

Krause did do two seasons of the dramedy Sports Night, and there have certainly been comedic moments in his dramatic roles over the years, but wouldn’t it be fun to see him do a straight-up comedy? And we do mean just comedy, not one of these shows that presents as such and then has more drama (30-minute comedies? A lost art). After seeing him in primarily dramatic roles, and considering how heavy his 9-1-1 character Bobby could get (the trauma in his past was a lot), this would be very much a change of pace for him. — Meredith Jacobs

Family Drama

This one can pretty much go without saying. Peter Krause has shined in family dramas, from Six Feet Under to Parenthood to, yes, 9-1-1, with Bobby the captain of the firehouse and both a father and father figure. Krause is great at delivering warm performances that make him right at home in the paternal role — and after all the heartbreak in Bobby’s life, first losing one family then being the one his next one lost, it would be great to see him as a character surrounded by family with some joy. — Meredith Jacobs

Period Piece

Wouldn’t you love to see Krause play the gruff but warm father in a Jane Austen adaptation? Or a  competent but flawed WWII general? Or maybe he could pop up on a show like The Buccaneers? Krause has never done a period piece before, but we’d love to see what he can do in a costume. — Leah Williams

Prestige Awards Bait

For his incredible work on Six Feet Under, Krause was nominated for two Golden Globes, seven Screen Actors’ Guild Awards, and three Emmys. His performance as Nate Fisher is an all-timer. Parenthood was famously snubbed year after year, but the entire ensemble did award-worthy work throughout its six-season run. We here at TV Insider are ready to see Krause win a statue or two. He’s been on television delivering heart-wrenching, grounded, and funny performances for decades–it’s time for some recognition. We would happily watch him on whatever Apple TV+, HBO, or FX show could make that happen. — Leah Williams
