Ghosts Season 4 is just over a month away from arriving, and CBS is giving viewers their first peek at the newest addition to the Woodstone gang, Puritan ghost Patience, played by new cast member Mary Holland.

Holland’s casting was announced during Ghosts‘ San Diego Comic-Con panel, which also unveiled Dean Norris as Sam’s (Rose McIver) father. In the photo, fans catch a glimpse of Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones), who appears to be fine after being dragged into the dirt surrounding Woodstone at the end of Season 3 by a faceless Patience.

In the aptly titled premiere episode, “Patience,” which is set to arrive on Thursday, October 17th, Isaac comes face-to-face with the Puritan Patience for the first time since she was lost in the dirt. Meanwhile, Sam and the other ghosts will race to find him after he disappeared following his non-wedding to red coat Nigel (John Hartman).

As was revealed upon Holland’s casting announcement, Patience died in the late 1600s and while alive, she was extremely judgemental, even by Puritan standards. During her life, Patience was expelled from her village for “being a bit too much.” After being a couple of hundred years dead, she was abandoned by Isaac underground, becoming a feral creature roaming the unoccupied dirt of Woodstone since 1895.

Holland’s role is considered a recurring guest star performance that is sure to elicit laughter once fans catch her in action onscreen. The premiere episode is written by Trey Kollmer and directed by Richie Keen.

Upon learning Isaac’s fate at the end of Season 3, Jones told TV Insider, “What’s really interesting about this show is that these ghosts are stuck in this purgatory and they don’t know why they’re still there. So they have to learn something and they have to hopefully change in some way before they can move on. And I think if this can start to trigger that particular experience for him that could be really exciting.” In other words, maybe Isaac needs to face Patience in order to move forward in his afterlife.

Fans will have to tune in to find out. Until then, they can look forward to seeing Patience, Isaac, Sam, Flower (Sheila Carrasco), Trevor (Asher Grodman), Thorfinn (Devan Chandler Long), Alberta (Danielle Pinnock), Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky), Sasappis (Roman Zaragoza), Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), Pete (Richie Moriarty), Nancy (Betsy Sodaro), and more when the show returns.
