At the end of Gen V Season 2, the students of Godolkin are left in chaos, as the future of Godolkin University hangs in the balance and many are forced to choose sides in an escalating war between Homelander (Antony Starr) and Starlight (Erin Moriarty), all while battling a new threat that has emerged on their very campus.

After eight mind-blowing episodes packed with chaos and a staggering amount of violence, the future of Marie and her fellow students remains uncertain, as alliances fracture, loyalties are tested, and survival becomes far from guaranteed. But their story is far from done, as Season 5 of The Boys will certainly pick up the ragtag group of would-be heroes from God U to help conclude the story.

But before fans dive into the new season of The Boys, here are a few burning questions left from Season 2 of Gen V that one should probably keep in mind. Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Gen V Season 2 and its finale, “Trojan.”

1. Which Gen V heroes will join the fight against Homelander and Vought?

At the end of Episode 8, Annie a.k.a. Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) meet with Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Cate (Maddie Phillips), Jordan (London Thor), Emma (Lizze Broadway), Sam (Asa Germann), and Marie’s sister Annabeth (Keeya King), formally welcoming them to the resistance against Vought. The finale sets up a direct crossover into The Boys Season 5, with the Gen V heroes officially in the fight against Homelander and his cult of followers.

In the trailer, Marie and Jordan are confirmed to join the fight, and while the others seem to be part of the resistance, it remains to be seen if they show up in Season 5 of The Boys.

2. How does Sister Sage's actions against Godolkin affect Season 5 of The Boys?

In Gen V, fans learn that Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater) injected himself with Compound V1 in 1967 during a lab accident at Project Odessa. This gives the scientist bodily manipulation powers that allow him to control others, while also making him near-immortal, similar to Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash).

He wants to use his powers to manipulate Homelander, much like he did with Cipher (Hamish Linklater), but that plan would greatly impact Sister Sage’s (Susan Heyward) mysterious Phase 2. So, despite being romantically involved with Godolkin and harboring real feelings for him, she allows Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas) to attack Godolkin, knowing his magnetic powers can resist Godolkin’s manipulations.

By orchestrating Godolkin’s death, Sage becomes a major pivot point heading into The Boys Season 5, removing a potential rival to Homelander, exposing a critical flaw in her own strategy as her feelings cloud her judgment of Thomas’ ambitions, and setting up a final confrontation involving the next generation of heroes.

3. Is Marie the strongest supe? Even stronger than Homelander?

Marie possesses powerful hemokinesis (blood bending), allowing her to control, solidify, and weaponize blood from herself or others. It also allows her to manipulate human biology, making people and herself more powerful, heal the wounded, and cause death through implosion. It remains unclear just how powerful Marie can ultimately become, but by the end of Gen V Season 2, she has not reached that level. She is still not fully trained to wield her abilities in a way that could take down someone as powerful as Homelander. For now, she poses a threat, but not a lethal one.

That said, Marie is considered a potential danger to Homelander because of her uniquely precise blood manipulation powers, which could allow her to bypass his nearly indestructible skin and attack him from within. Throughout Gen V, Cipher, also known as Godolkin, repeatedly emphasizes that Marie may be one of the most powerful supes alive. The reason is simple: She and Homelander are the only known surviving members of Project Odessa.

Project Odessa is a covert Vought initiative aimed at creating “god-tier” supes by injecting Compound V into embryos at the blastocyst stage. As of The Boys Season 5, Homelander and Marie Moreau stand as the program’s only confirmed successes, placing them on a level unlike any other supes.

However, Eric Kripke stated to SFX Magazine that while they will pop up in the final season, the Gen V cast will not be the ones to save the day or defeat Homelander, ensuring the focus remains on the original cast of The Boys.

4. What did Sister Sage see exactly?

Aside from being the smartest person in the world, Sister Sage appears to possess a kind of predictive foresight born from her superintelligence, allowing her to anticipate how her plans will play out. That insight may be what ultimately changes her mind about Godolkin and leads her to abandon him.

During her conversation with Polarity while he is in his cell, she tells him he will not die that day. There is a noticeable sadness in her voice as she adds, “Not that it matters, anyway. Everything ends the same.” Looking somewhat defeated, she walks away, leaving his cell door slightly ajar and allowing him to escape.

The moment raises a question: Does Sage already know that she and Homelander are going to lose?

5. Is Annabeth the new member of the God U resistance group?

Held captive in a Vought-run facility in Elmira, Marie is finally reunited with Annabeth, who had been held hostage by Dean Cipher to coerce her. Annabeth possesses precognition, allowing her to see brief glimpses of future events. After years in hiding, she is now back with her sister and beginning to use her abilities, which let her anticipate imminent danger, sense when someone is approaching, or predict attacks moments before they happen.

However, her powers remain unstable and largely uncontrollable. She would be a valuable asset to any team, but her unpredictability makes her just as much a liability as a strength.

6. What happened to God U and the students who attended the school?

In Gen V Season 2, the Godolkin University student body faces a brutal culling led by Thomas Godolkin, who possesses students to make them kill each other. The school descends into chaos as many students are killed or severely injured, while Marie, Jordan, and Emma escape with the help of Starlight and A-Train to join the resistance. Students with unconventional powers, like Black Hole (who can hide entire people in his “quantum singularity” rear end) and Bushmaster (prehensile hair), play a crucial role in the victory. Many are evacuated from the seminar room before the showdown.

It is unknown if the survivors will join Homelander or the resistance, but no doubt their experiences will shape their decisions, but the school itself is probably closed.

7. What happened to the supe virus that was created at God U?

In Gen V Season 2, Thomas Godolkin’s plan, often executed through the persona of Cipher, is to forcibly evolve supe-kind by purging “weak” supes and creating a “utopian” elite. He wants to use the supe-killing virus to eradicate 75% of weaker supes, leaving only the strongest. He plans to control Marie Moreau to use her abilities and intends to control Homelander, a move that deviates from the original plan devised with Sister Sage.

At the end of Gen V Season 2, the final sample of the supe-killing virus is taken by Billy Butcher, hardly the most stable person to possess such a devastating weapon. What he plans to do with it will be answered in The Boys Season 5.
