Stephen Colbert’s Simple, Common Sense Take on Bathroom Laws

During Stephen Colbert’s Late Show monologue last night, he talked about the various “bathroom laws” that some states are considering (and North Carolina has voted into law) that force transgender people to use bathrooms associated with their anatomy than their stated gender. Colbert started his discussion of these laws by going on a riff about public bathrooms in general. “I don’t want to share a bathroom with anyone, for two reasons: Number 1 and Number 2.”

He then proposes more common-sense bathroom laws: No chit-chat, don’t shake anyone’s hand, and please keep a buffer stall between you and the next guy. Those are laws I can get behind. If someone could also mandate a courtesy flush, that would also be nice.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Weeknights, 11:35/10:35c, CBS.
