Oscar winner Renée Zellweger (Cold MountainJerry MaguireChicagoBridget Jones films) is heading to television with her latest role as Anne in Netflix’s upcoming drama What / If.

From Revenge creator Michael Kelley and executive producer Robert Zemeckis (Back to the FutureForrest Gump) comes this social thriller which “explores the ripple effects of what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things.”

An anthology series, What / If will tackle tales of morality during each of its seasons, which will be inspired by “culturally consequential source material.” The show will observe how a “single fateful decision” can alter the rest of one’s life.

As for Zellweger’s role, few details have been released apart from her character’s name. But as the world of streaming grows in popularity, it’s no surprise to see yet another big name heading into the sphere.

Zellweger joins other Oscar-winning stars at Netflix including Maniac‘s Sally Field and Emma Stone, as well as The Kominsky Method‘s Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin, among others. And Netflix does not have the monopoly on Academy Award winners among streaming services. At Hulu, Sean Penn will be headlining the September series The First, while Julia Roberts stars in Amazon’s Homecoming later this fall.

No premiere date has been announced yet for What/If, but more details are likely to surface in the coming weeks and months.

Alongside Kelley and Zemeckis, Melissa Loy, Alex Gartner, Charles Roven, and Jack Rapke will executive produce the series. Jackie Levine will serve as co-executive producer on the project.
