History’s Texas Rising, a five-part miniseries premiering on Memorial Day, tells the tale of the state’s fight for independence and emergence from the wilds of the West. And like any on-screen adventure, it needed an epic sound to set the tone.

That comes courtesy of the Texas-tinged instrumental score from composers John Debney and Bruce Broughton. The two have plenty of experience with sounds of the West: Debney worked on the Emmy-nominated score of History’s Hatfields & McCoys, while Broughton won Emmys for Dallas and an Oscar nomination for 1985’s Silverado. Here, take a listen to tracks that set the auditory scene:

Texas Rising Main Title

The Battle of San Jacinto

Texas Rising Suite

The newly-released soundtrack for the series also includes songs from Lone Star State natives George Strait and Kris Kristofferson (who covers Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down), along with Jose Feliciano.
