What’s Worth Watching: Texas Rises

Texas Rising, “The Rise of the Republic” (Monday, June 15, 9/8c, History)

History’s colorful retelling of the Texas War of Independence comes to an end tonight. Sam Houston (Bill Paxton) and his army of Texians and Tejanos may have beaten Santa Anna (Olivier Martinez) and his Mexican military at San Jacinto, essentially wresting Texas from its Southern neighbor, but there’s plenty more fightin’ and fussin’ in the miniseries’ final episode. Emily West (Cynthia Adai-Robinson), Houston’s love and wartime spy, is still in the hands of Santa Anna’s men and there’s a chance that those men will try and rescue their Presidente from Houston’s forces. As for the Texas Rangers, there’s more heroic derring-do and a passel of heartache ahead
