Brooklyn Nine-Nine, “The Chopper” (Sunday, May 10, 8:30/7:30c, Fox)

“She’s the devil. And you don’t dance with the devil, because you get burned.” That unholy term of endearment—uttered by Holt (Andre Braugher) about nemesis, Chief Deputy Wuntch (Kyra Sedgwick)— proves prophetic tonight in yet another episode that reminds us why B99 has a Best Comedy Golden Globe. The human thorn in the Captain’s side resurfaces amid the hunt for a killer who stole $21 million when she asks Holt to lead the investigation instead of her own Major Crimes team. Clearly suspicious of her causal handing off of a huge case, Holt realizes that he’s being set up to fail. He drops his by-the-book plan and joins Jake and Charlie’s crusade to turn the mission into something out of an action flick. Cue the choppers, code names (“Velvet Thunder” needs his own webisode), and eventual mountain of recovered cash, but don’t count out Wuntch just yet. While we stand up and cheer any time Braugher gets to let loose and get in on the laughs, that “devil toad” has something in store for his Holt that is not going to sit well with anyone back at the precinct.
