What’s Worth Watching: Daredevil Dares to Go Dark

Daredevil the series has a decidedly low bar to clear: Just about anything would feel like an improvement over the 2003 Ben Affleck movie. Luckily, this drama does more than that. It’s a little dark, visually—someone please tell showrunners that night scenes do not look great on TV screens—but the sense of place is a great sell. Rather than spread out over all of the country or the world or the galaxy, Daredevil concentrates on Manhattan Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, where blind lawyer/vigilante Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) uses his super-heightened senses against thieves and crime bosses, like Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk.
