It might sound like an April Fool’s joke, but TV’s longest-running daytime soap still in production is absolutely serious about its 52nd-anniversary stunt, in which scenes from the very first episode (which aired April 1, 1963) are re-enacted by today’s cast. Which explains why Jason Thompson, usually known as Dr. Patrick Drake, will be channeling the iconic persona of Dr. Steve Hardy (played until his death in 1996 by John Beradino). Likewise, Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber) will take on the role of Nurse Jessie Brewer (originally played by Emily McLaughlin), and Ryan Carnes (Lucas Jones) will be Dr. Phil Brewer (once played by Martin West).

If that weren’t enough of a draw, it’s also a big episode for fans of Anthony Geary’s Luke Spencer, who will finally reveal, according to the show, “what caused his mental break over the years.” Guest star Dee Wallace plays his (what else) long-lost sister, Patricia, who’ll help shed light on the situation. How will they top this next year?
