What’s Worth Watching: Vikings’ New Warrior

Vikings, “Mercenary” (Thurs., Feb. 19, 10/9c, History)

There’s a new warrior among the hairy ranks of the Nordic drama Vikings, and this one might be even craftier than leader Ragnar (Travis Fimmel). “You can’t trust any Viking,” warns Ben Robson, who joins Season 3 as Kalf, the second-in-command to shield-maiden Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick). It quickly becomes clear that Kalf is more than just a sidekick to the lusty lady, and Robson teases that his character may have dreams beyond serving her.

“He is incredibly ambitious,” says the actor. “He wants to find a position where he can be recognized as a leader.” Still, the newbie knows from being a fan of the series that besting his lady boss will be an uphill battle. “On this show, the women give as good as they get!”
