Why Is Whoopi Goldberg Absent From ‘The View’?
The View has only just returned for its milestone 30th season, but cohost and moderator Whoopi Goldberg is already taking a hiatus from the show, and some of the show’s former cohosts will be stepping in to take her place.
In an appearance on Behind the Table on Wednesday (September 16), executive producer Brian Teta‘s podcast, he noted, “You’re going to be gone over the next two weeks, but you’ll be here on Mondays, and then the rest of the weeks, we’re going to have filling in for you some of our old friends, cohosts from The View. We’re going to have Lisa Ling. We’re going to have Star Jones, Sherri Shepherd, and Debbie Matenoupoulos. So Joy [Behar] will be moderating, and they’ll be filling in Tuesday, Wednesday, [and] Thursday.”
“Is Joy up for it?” Goldberg joked.
“Joy is up for it. She’s always excited to moderate. And each day, we’ll have, I think we’ll have Starr and Lisa for two days and Debbie for one.”
So why is Goldberg taking time off of The View?
She’s working on a film she described to Teta like so, “It’s five really wonderful women, several of whom I’ve worked with before [and] it’s about change and getting older and having fun with your friends and people who get you. It’s about finding your people.”
According to Variety, the film is titled Women Like Us and is produced by Barack Obama and Michelle Obama‘s company, Higher Ground, for Netflix. Starring alongside Goldberg will be Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams, and Vivica A. Fox, and directing the picture is Tasha Smith, and the screenplay is by Ali Kinney and Tracy Oliver. It is filming in New York City.
The official description reads, “A recently widowed woman is dragged to the Hamptons by her lifelong best friends and sister on what should have been her 30th anniversary. The weekend becomes a reckoning, with grief, with marriage, with the sisterhood that’s carried them throughout the years, and with the realization that dreams don’t have an expiration date.”
This isn’t the first time Goldberg has stepped away from the daytime talk show to pursue to her main career as an actress. Last November, she took leave of the show in order to star in an Italian soap opera, Un Posto Al Sole.

Never watched the view and I dont care for any of these liberal leftist women. Use to love to watch Whoopi in her movies, but when they start trashing my President, im gone. They are entainers STAY OUT OF POLITICS.

I Love the View because the ladies say and tell the truth about things and people that others are afraid to say, they expose those evil people that are trying to destroy what America stood for Love,Peace and Happiness, but the Good Lord is coming back and he's going to cut all evil doers down!!!

The View is not a pleasant show to watch. So much anger, hostility and meanness… it needs to go. Why do people consider these ladies to be experts in anything?! Ouch!!

@Janet... ignore "them". Those kinda people have been waiting 20 years for the View to be canceled because their beloved president hates it. Sorry, but its been indefinitely renewed and will be on the air long after our beloved orange president is out of office
