Whoopi Goldberg Announces Upcoming Absence From ‘The View’

The View has only just returned for its milestone 30th season, but cohost and moderator Whoopi Goldberg is already taking a hiatus from the show, and some of the show’s former cohosts will be stepping in to take her place.

In an appearance on Behind the Table on Wednesday (September 16), executive producer Brian Teta‘s podcast, he noted, “You’re going to be gone over the next two weeks, but you’ll be here on Mondays, and then the rest of the weeks, we’re going to have filling in for you some of our old friends, cohosts from The View. We’re going to have Lisa Ling. We’re going to have Starr Jones, Sherri Shepherd, and Debbie Matenoupoulos. So Joy [Behar] will be moderating, and they’ll be filling in Tuesday, Wednesday, [and] Thursday.”

“Is Joy up for it?” Goldberg joked.

“Joy is up for it. She’s always excited to moderate. And each day, we’ll have, I think we’ll have Starr and Lisa for two days and Debbie for one.”

So why is Goldberg taking time off of The View?

She’s working on a film she described to Teta like so, “It’s five really wonderful women, several of whom I’ve worked with before [and] ut’s about change and getting older and having fun with your friends and people who get you. It’s about finding your people.”

According to Variety, the film is titled Women Like Us and is produced by Barack Obama and Michelle Obama‘s company, Higher Ground, for Netflix. Starring alongside Goldberg will be Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams, and Vivica A. Fox, and directing the picture is Tasha Smith, and the screenplay is by Ali Kinney and Tracy Oliver. It is filming in New York City.

This isn’t the first time Goldberg has stepped away from the daytime talk show to pursue to her main career as an actress. Last November, she took leave of the show in order to star in an Italian soap opera, Un Posto Al Sole.
