‘Boston Blue’ Bosses Give a Jack Reagan Update — Will He Be in Season 2?

Danny Reagan’s (Donnie Wahlberg) sons, Jack and Sean Reagan, were played by real-life brothers Tony and Andrew Terraciano on Blue Bloods. Sean is a main character in the Boston Blue spinoff, but the production recast Mika Amonsen in the role. Big brother Jack was mentioned in Season 1 when his absence from the series was explained. Will Jack Reagan be in Boston Blue Season 2? We asked the show’s creators for an update. The answer was brief, but positive.

Boston Blue Season 2 premieres on Friday, October 9, on CBS. In our preview for the sophomore season, cocreators and showrunners Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier (a.k.a. The Brandons) told TV Insider that Jack could be addressed in Season 2.

“It’s possible” that viewers will get an update on or see Jack in the second season, Sonnier said. The duo couldn’t share more, but the big question surrounding Jack’s potential introduction to Boston Blue is who would play him. If/when they decide to bring Jack into the fold onscreen, will they recast Tony’s role like they did his brother, Andrew’s? The last update viewers got on Jack, he was stationed in Africa working with Doctors Without Borders in medical school.

Amonsen’s casting was announced before Boston Blue premiered in 2025.

“We wanted a slightly different version of Sean,” Margolis told TV Insider about the recasting at the time. “We wanted a character that feels familiar, an actor that does resemble the character that we watched grow up. But as you saw in the pilot, he has made some life changes, and having joined the police force, he is really picking up that family mantle.”

Terraciano said he “got the joy of playing Sean, and I got to send him off into the world,” when asked about the recasting. “Now somebody else gets that joy. We’re both getting to show what we do and then send Sean off into the world.”

Amonsen told TV Insider he “never felt nervous” about taking over the role, but he admitted to seeing negative comments about his casting online.

“Even reading reviews and people posting negativity, it didn’t bother me,” Amonsen says. “I knew that I could only do the best that I could do to honor what Andrew did, to respect the Sean that everyone liked, and do as much justice as I could while bringing myself into the role, and that there would be pushback. I anticipated it all. And so, I haven’t been too fazed by it.”

“I hoped that Andrew would see it and understand that I did that, and that fans [who] really enjoyed the show, who pay attention, could understand and see that I was doing that,” he continues. “And then there’s going to be the people that don’t want to understand, and that’s OK.”
